Summary:
The Ron Weasley and Harry Potter are rounded up by Professor McGonagall after Harry’s dream about being a snake and are taken to Dumbledore. Harry tells Dumbledore of the dream and Dumbledore sends two portraits to check it out. Dumbledore also sends Fawkes to send a warning and consults a magical machine. When the portraits return they inform Dumbledore that Arthur was badly injured.

Dumbledore instructs Phineas Nigellus to alert Sirius. The other Weasley’s are wakened and all are Portkeyed to Grimmauld place. When they arrive, the children are anxious to go the St. Mungo’s, but Sirius convinces them it is a danger to the Order. Mrs. Weasley sends a note, accompanied by one of Fawkes’s feathers, saying Arthur is still alive; making the kids sit up for hours worrying. When Molly finally arrives, she tells her family Arthur is going to be all right. Mrs. Weasley thanks Harry for saving her husband’s life my informing Dumbledore so quickly.

Harry tells Sirius he felt like he was a snake, or that the snake was inside him. Sirius tells him not to blame himself. All will spend Christmas in 12 Grimmauld, which makes Sirius happy.

The next morning the group sets of for St. Mungo’s, except for Sirius, escorted by Tonks and Mad-Eye. The see Dilys Derwent’s portrait on the way in, and she winks and goes to inform Dumbledore of their arrival. They head to the ward where Arthur is being treated, and Arthur thanks Harry. The kids press Arthur for information as to what he was doing when he was attacked, but he and Molly put them off with a story about Willy Widdershins and his exploding toilets. Then the kids are sent out and Mad-Eye and Tonks go in. The kids use Extendable Ears to listen in on the conversation and learn that they are worried about Harry being possessed by Voldemort. Harry is uncomfortable and the children look afraid of him.

Quotable Quotes:

- Dumbledore sends the portraits:
“Everhard and Dilys were two of Hogwart’s most celebrated heads,”
Dumbledore said, now sweeping around Harry, Ron, and Professor McGonagall and approaching the magnificent sleeping bird on his perch beside the door.
“Their renown is such that they both have portraits in hanging in other important wizarding institutions. As they are free to move between their own portraits they can tell us what may be happening elsewhere ...”

- Fawkes can help:
“We will need,” said Dumbledore very quietly to the bird, “a warning.”

- Dumbledore consults his machine:
“Naturally, naturally,” murmured Dumbledre, apparently to himself, still observing the stream of smoke without the slightest sign of surprise. “But in essense divided?”

- Fawkes’s warning:
There was a flash of flame in the very middle of the office, leaving behind a single golden feather that floated to the floor. “It’s is Fawkes’ warning,” said Dumbledore, catching the feather as it fell. “She must know you’re out of your beds ...”

- Harry consults Sirius:
“It wasn’t that, said Harry, shaking his head. “It was like something rose up inside me, like there’s a snake inside me-“

- What was Arthur doing?
“You were guarding it, weren’t you?” said George quietly. “The weapon? The thing You-Know-Who’s after?”
