It has come to my attention having just read page 48 in CoS, that I think Percy Weasly will become Minister of Magic!

Lots of people on these boards are asuming that Arthur Weasly will become Minister, but as it says here, and I've noticed, once more after :

Quote::
...They found Percy, deeply immersed in a small and deeply boringbook called Prefects who gained Power.

'a study of Hogwarts prefects and their later carees,' Ron read off the back cover. 'That sounds fascinating...'

'Go away.' Percy snapped.

'Coure, he's very ambitious, Percy, he's got it all planned out... h want's to be Minister of Magic...' Ron told Harry and Hermione in an undertone.

And he seems, already, to be worming his way there. First, being friendly with Crouch... then working for him, then completely dishonouring the family, then getting closer to the Minister ,Fudge, beleiving all the @#%$ and bull stories about Harry, and also, nearly expelling Harry at his hearing.

But nevertheless, however much I hate to admit it<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :grr --><img src=http://pages.prodigy.net/siriusblack/boards/smilies/grr.gif ALT=":grr]<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> ... He might well become Minister. I mean, Arthur hasn't really got it in him, no matter how kind, sweet and lovely he is.<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START Very Happy --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D]<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Anybody think the same?

Yes, I could see Percy becoming minister, but maybe not in the books at any time. At the end of book 7 Percy will be 22/23 and that is kind of young to be in charge of the entire British Wizarding Community.

I like your thinking- you are thinking exactly what Percy would think- "they have to make me MOM!"

I agree with the previous comments that he will be too young, but I dont think that it will stop him and his unending determination.

I am going to go with a "No" on Percy being MOM- but I would like to spark a debate on who should be the next MOM.

I think that somehow a still-in-hiding death eater will become MOM.

Well, I guess he won't be minister. He just wants it too much. Apart from that, he was totally wrong to agree with Fudge that Voldy didn't return. I think that is the reason why Fugde won't be minister anymore, so why should Percy follow him? And like the previous comments, he is indeed too young.

I think that Arthur Weasley is too soft to be the Minister of Magic - sure, he'd be fair, but I don't think he'd be able to hack it. Not sure why. That and the fact that I'm not sure whether Arthur would actually want to be the Minister of Magic. He seems content with his current job.

Percy - well, there must be a stackload of people in line for the job before Percy. True, he's ambitious, but right now he has next to no experience. Maybe he will become MoM later on - he certainly has the ambition and keeness to learn and gain the needed experience. I don't think that he'll become MoM at any point in the next two books and it's highly unlikely that he will be later on - there are loads of other wizards who could fit the bill; maybe better candidates.

Tanya, I believe that JKR has already stated that Arthur will not be the next MOM on her website under the FAQ books section.

I wish he would be, though, I like his thoughts on muggle relations and what disgraces the name of wizard!

Is the MOM chosen by the wizengamot?

Well, it seems that JKR is basing the Ministry of Magic on British customs. How is the Prime Minister chosen? Is he voted in? I have no comprehension of British politics.

I do, however, have a sneeky hunch that a DE may be declared as MOM. Either that, or DD will step in on a temporary basis.

However, I can't recall hearing if Fudge will be removed from office. Has anyone else heard anything about it? And if so, where?

I also, like I said above, think it will be a DE.

I don't know if JKR has said it somewhere officially, but in the rumors section of her website- it is like a newspaper, it says sometimes- New Minister of Magic, Fudge forced to flee.

She has said it officially, I think it was in the World Book Day Chat - she said there will definitely be a new MoM in the next book.

Yes, I saw that. And also to all of the above postees, hehe, I do now agree that Percy will be too young. It never actually occurred to me that the characters had ages! Razz hehe

While Percy is undoubtedly ambitious enough to try for the job...i'm sure that there is an age limit to becoming Minister, kinda like how here in the US you have to be 35 to run for President. It's all a matter of making sure you have enough life experiance, and maturity. Which if you can honestly think Albus Dumbledore is going to lie to an entire populus about Voldemort returning, your far too stupid to be a Minister...which is also why Fudge is getting ousted.

Well, William Pitt the Younger did become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at the tender age of 24. Dunno if any minimum age laws were passed since Bill Jr.'s time.
