Everyone in Hogsmede was wondering what Violet was looking so happy about as she strutted through the streets, no doubt looking for her boyfriend. Severus smiled at her, knowing of course that she wasn’t the real Violet.
So get over here and tell me what I wanna hear!
Better yet, make your girlfriend disappear!
I don’t wanna hear you say her name ever again!
And again!
And again!
And again!
If Sirius wasn’t going to get a move on and finish Violet, like he obviously wanted to, Courtney was going to have to give him some help!
“Hey!” Sirius greeted as he sauntered up and put his arm around her waist.
Man, he’s cute, Courtney thought to herself..
“Get away from me, Black!” She shouted.
“Vi? What’s wrong?” He asked.
“Don’t act all innocent with me, Sirius Black! I know you’ve got a crush on Courtney!” She hissed and was delighted to see him blush. So Sirius Black did have a crush on her?
“No, Vi, it’s just…I’m attracted to her and all that but…”
“Go away!” She screamed and ran away, hoping he didn’t realise that the look on her face was triumphant and not depressed. She grabbed Severus as she ran and the two of them went to hide. The next step should be funny!
“In a few minutes, the potion will wear off!” He told her, “then we can go and wake the sleeping dragon…”
Violet woke up in the dark alley. For a few moments, she was disorientated and confused so she didn’t see Courtney and Severus running away. She had absolutely no idea how she came to be lying on the floor like this. She got to her feet and checked her watch.
Oh no! I should have met Sirius an hour ago! He’ll be wondering where I am!
“Violet? I’m sorry!” To Violets’ amazement, Sirius came running up to her as soon as she was out of the alley. She’d been about to apologize for being late but something wasn’t quite right.
“What?” She asked, sharply. He must have mistaken her confusion for anger.
“Look, I know you’re mad at me because I fancy Courtney but-”
“WHAT?” She screamed at him, now. Her worst fears had been confirmed.
“Look, can we not do this here?” He panicked. Looking around, everyone in the crowded street was now crowded around them. He saw James, Remus and Peter in the audience – the last people he wanted to witness this scene! He saw Lily and Violets’ other friends looking awestruck at Violet, who had never screamed at Sirius or even had a little row with him before. He saw Courtney herself and was that Regulus? Oh great! His little brother was going to see Sirius’ humiliation, now. A whole group of Slytherins were there, actually. All watching and smirking, Snape included.
“NO!
WE’LL DO THIS, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW! OH LOOK! THERE SHE IS!” Violet pointed at Courtney, who pretended to look shocked.
“Vi? Please?” Sirius begged.
“WHY DON’T YOU COME HERE, COURTNEY?” Violet was now shouting, Sirius knew, so that the audience could hear. She wanted everyone to know.
“What is it?” Courtney asked.
“MY BOYFRIEND FANCIES YOU!” Violet called out and there were several gasps and whoops from the audience. Evans had her hand over her mouth in shock. Regulus was just staring but the other Slytherins were laughing. Sirius’ embarrassment was their pleasure.
“Violet?” He tried again.
“NO, SIRIUS BLACK! YOU’VE DONE NOTHING BUT TALK ABOUT HER, THINK ABOUT HER AND DREAM ABOUT HER FOR WEEKS, NOW! TODAY, YOU CONFIRMED EVERYTHING I’D BEEN WORRIED ABOUT!”
“Well, I’m sorry, but –”
“DO YOU KNOW WHAT?” She suddenly asked the audience.
“What?” A group of people, mainly Slytherins chanted back.
“HE ACTUALLY CALLED ME COURTNEY THE OTHER DAY!”
“No I didn’t!” Sirius gasped.
“OH YES, YOU DID! AT THE TIME, I WAS
SO SCARED OF LOSING YOU THAT I DIDN’T MENTION IT BUT I’M SICK OF IT, NOW! IT’S GONE ON TOO LONG! SIRIUS BLACK, IT’S OVER BETWEEN US!” She relished the look of horror on his face. Most of the crowd started cheering. Evans was looking at her friend in disbelief. His fellow marauders looked mortified. Well, two of them did; Remus just looked disapproving. Violet stormed off, the crowd thinned out and went back to their shopping, talking about what had just happened and Sirius was left standing alone with the other marauders, his brother and the woman who started the whole thing – Courtney.
“Siri? Are you alright?” Sirius hadn’t expected a concerned voice from his brother.
“Why don’t you just leave, Reg?” He sighed. His brother nodded and left.
“Wow!” Courtney said. “You shouldn’t let her treat you like that!”
“Courtney!” James snapped. “It’s all your fault! Why don’t you keep your trap shut!”
“Don’t you yell at her!” Sirius warned him.
“Why not!” Someone else said. Oh great, now Evans was joining in.
“Can I help you?” Sirius asked her.
“Don’t
you shout at
her!” James told him.
“Fine!” Sirius snapped back!
“It’ll be alright, Siri…she’ll calm down!” Courtney whispered, very close to him. She was incredibly sexy…
In a second, you’ll be wrapped around my finger!
‘Cos I can!
‘Cos I can do it better!
There’s no other!
So when’s it gonna sink in?
She’s so stupid!
What the hell were you thinking?
Courtney grinned and before she knew it, they were kissing. She was wrapped around Sirius Black. James and Peter looked outraged, Remus just looked disbelieving and Lily looked furious.
“SIRIUS BLACK!” She screamed. “YOU’VE NOT EVEN BEEN BROKEN UP FROM MY BEST FRIEND FOR FIVE MINUTES AND ALREADY YOU’
RE…YOU’
RE…”
“BEING STUPID AND INSENSETIVE AND I’M NOT SURE I CAN HANG AROUND WITH YOU IF YOU’
RE LIKE THAT!” James finished. Lily looked impressed.
“Come on…” Remus muttered.
“Let’s leave them to it!” Sighed Peter. As the three marauders walked away, Lily linked arms with James. Sirius felt happy for James, in spite of himself.
“Don’t mind them!” Courtney whispered.
“I won’t!” Sirius replied, silkily and they walked off together. Someone was watching them, as they left. Someone was incredibly happy about what had happened. That person was Regulus Black.
