But Rav is so good! It's easier to search than Knitting Pattern Central and I think most of those patterns are on Rav anyway. Very Happy

OK, there is one negative to Ravelry, it's a time suck. You get on and start looking and can't get off.

I started making a beret. It's not going so well. (I crochet, not knit). I don't like working in rounds because I always start them wrong, but I really want to make hats. Rawrrr. I ended up doing like... 60 or more stitches when they said it should only take 42 to get to the end of the round... then the next one was terrible. I don't know how I messed it up like that. I probably counted wrong. D: I wasn't too far along. I'll just start over. :/ I guess I can comfort myself with the thought that this is only my third attempt at REALLY making anything. (previously I've done a sock and a hat)

**EDIT

I just found a simple beanie pattern where the beginning of the first round seems to make more sense than the beret patten did. Plus I've never actually worn a beret... but they look cool D: The pattern seems more complex though because the one I chose had a pattern on it.

We interrupt your normal SPEW thread to share the following express owl from Mrs. Weasley!

Dear SPEW Members,

I've been so pleased to see your knitting and crocheting progress these past few years. In fact, I have asked your moderators to take my Burrow Bazaar on the road next month to a local craft fair! The fair will take place on Friday, 4 December near Pen's home. I should very much like the proceeds from your creations to be used to support your wonderful community, Immeritus. A finer tribute to my friend, Sirius, I have never seen. I've tried to donate funds to your site, but somehow galleons, knuts, and sickles don't seem to convert into Muggle money.

If you have small items you would like to sell, do let Pen and Canute know. Things like hats, scarves, gloves or mitts, gift bags or gadget cozies never go amiss at the holidays. Pen will need to receive your items by Monday, 30 November. This will give her time to catalog your items and prepare them for display. Do let the ladies know how much you'd like your items to fetch, and if you'd like some compensation for your work. They will need to know if you can contribute anything by Sunday, 15 November at the very latest. I plan on sending some things myself, though my children tell me Muggles wouldn't appreciate a Weasley jumper. That I cannot believe.

I look forward to seeing your contributions!

Kind regards,
Molly Weasley

*flaps long ears and holds out a cup of eggnog to the express owl*

Ooops!

*drinks the eggnog and holds out an owl treat*

Let me see what the elf can do...

*whips out knitting needles, helps herself to another cup of eggnog*

I would LOVE a Weasley jumper..

Pen, I don't do anything knitty or crochet-y. Is this craft fair open for other forms of craftiness? (Not that I'm terribly talented in any way, but I may be able to come up with a little something...) Smile

Ooh, I looove eggnog. *eyes Winky's eggnog enviously*

I wish I was talented enough to make a Weasley sweater. That would be SO awesome... but I can't even get the hang of hats and socks... and crocheting doesn't seem to provide me with many things to make :/
But again, I have to get the hang of hats first... *sigh* I need to go get my yarn back out of the car, rip my hat apart (maybe "unravel" would sound a bit less violent) and start over.

Dexy, it is! What have you got in mind?

I think Mrs. Weasley is very adventurous to attempt a Weasley jumper for Muggles. I'm definitely taking her advice about small items though!

I have no idea what I have in mind at this point, lol. Whatever it is, it will be something fairly lightweight/not easily breakable ect. I need to look at all my crafty bits and bobs to see what I can come up with using items on hand... I'll PM specifics when they come to me.

Oooh, I'll PM another question right now, in fact....

I can do at least one small set (6-8) of handmade note cards (all purpose). I also have a dropstitch scarf I made quite awhile back that I was going to use as a family gift, and sort of forgot about it.

Those would be great, Soli. And, in case there's any doubt, Winky, a contribution from you would be fab. Thanks, ladies!

If anyone else is still thinking about this, you've got a couple more days before I need to know for sure. I'd like to be able to take several items not just one or two, so if you know of any other handicrafters out there (yes, scrappers, this includes you!) who would be interested, please let them know!

I made a scarf! I've never done it before. I was going to make a hat, but I was at my friend's house having "crafty day" and we were talking, listening to music, and watching DVDs (as we crocheted/knitted), so it was too complicated to follow a pattern. Instead I did something I've never attempted before. I made a scarf.

Of course, my distraction lead the ends to be a bit... strange because I would either go one stitch too far or not far enough before I turned it, but that's okay.

It's 60 inches or 152 cm long and between 4-7 inches wide (11-17cm) it kind of... flares out on the ends and scrunches up in the middle. Also, it curls on the ends :/ I don't know what causes that. Single crocheted with ribbing.

I will possibly get some better pictures where I'm not using a terrible webcam and the sun isn't distorting the lighting of it. You can't really see the proper colour of it or the detail.

The yarn I used:
Aunt Lydia's Worsted Weight Acrylic
"Lt Federal Blue"
It's quite old yarn. I have never bought yarn, so I don't know if it's available anymore, but this yarn is like... 10 years old, haha!

I just found another skein of it in my bag... if I'd known that, I would've made it wider... oh well. I can make a matching hat though maybe!

Wow, that's so pretty, Gwen! And the color is lovely! Well done!

I knit a pair of fingerless gloves for one of my friends a couple of weeks ago (my first pair of gloves):
