After looking at all of the characters that are really considered evil, none of them, to me, seem to have the full array of qualities that made Voldemort the dark lord. Some of them are extremely evil, but not good leaders. Others are leaders and are ambitious, but they lack the comittment. There just isn't anyone that we have met that jumps out to me and says, "Hey, watch out for this person, they are truly twisted beyond belief." If there is to be another Dark Lord, he might not necessarily be from Hogwarts. It could be some student that is really good at dark arts at Durmstrang, or anywhere else in the world.

I think we need to remember that the person needs to really have special circumstances, like Neville...hmmm... and have the hate that is required to be evil. A dark lord is really someone who posesses all the traits of Dumbledore really, except they use them for bad and not good.

P.S.- I don't really think that Neville is the next dark lord. He would probably use his hate for good. And I just can't picture a dark lord planting people to death.

I don't really believe that there will be a new Dark Lord as J.K says she won't be writing anymore HP books so there would be no point in introducing a new Dark Lord.

However i do believe that if there was to be a new Dark Lord that Snape would be able for it. That is to say if Snape is evil, I don't believe he is, but if he is i think he would be perfect. He's mean, cunning and i'd say a powerful leader.

People are saying Lucious Malfoy alot i think on the outside that he would be intimidating and the one who you think of first to be the next Dark Lord but i think he's more a follower than a leader. As in that he can follow other people but left up to himself i think he would fall apart.

Thats just my opinion on who the next Dark Lord could be although i do highly doubt there will be a next one.

I don't think Neville has any real hate in him, but then I distinguish fury from hate. My sense is that Neville would not so much feel that his parents should be avenged as that he would say "these DE's must be stopped."

In this sense he is somewhat like Harry, although Harry may actually be more inclined to revenge than Neville. Given that in my mind Neville is the "alternate Boy Who Lived," I enjoy comparing their roles in the book and the latent strengths that Neville may possess (and which may yet show themselves).

I agree with Faith that Lucius is not a Dark-Lord-to-Be. If he were, he would not have been hiding his intentions for the years LV was disembodied. He would have been trying to take over.

I agree with Faith that there won't be any new Dark Lords, for the same reason. Also, there would have to be a time of peace in between, wouldn't there? Which I think means that all the people we see now in Harry Potter would either be dead or too old to be a Dark Lord. The people would have to have time to get their heads together and start over with life. And like Faith said, JKR isn't writing any more Harry Potter books.

Of course Bode (in OotP) would say that LV's followers are not above "planting people to death." (I agree that it's funny.)

The only person we see in HP who seems powerful and clever enough to be a succcessor dark lord is Snape; but then I think he is on the good side. Of course the leadership of the Ministry doesn't seem overly competant either.

I have to agree with the majority, that there won't be a new Dark Lord for many years, it's just not likely.

I started out reading these posts and this was my original thought:
I doubt we'll have heard of who will become the next Dark Lord. It'll either be too far in the future or someone who was in the shadows that wasn't really important enough to get much mention. Think of young Tom, he was quiet, smart, prefect, everything to make him a model student. Model, but boring. He didn't stand out very much other than being unusually intelligent. Dumbledore noticed but he is a man matched by no other. I also believe that there will be a new Dark Lord, they will be no where near what Voldemort was. Voldemort was a 'thing' like no other and I highly doubt there will ever be another like him. There will be more evil-doers but they'll always be stopped.

But after reading through most of the posts before mine I was intrigued by the idea of Fenrir becoming the next Dark Lord. If it hadn't been that the seventh book implies that Fenrir was killed then I do believe he would have become a powerful, evil force. Fenrir already was building an army and it seemed to me personally that he had no conscience. He would just harm the innocent and young and have no regrets. He had a serious grudge against wizards for who-knows-why and he had enough brawn and careful planning to take him far.
