Woot! I like the list.
Emma has a point though, the names that stay the same should be written as they are, so that there aren't so many gaps in the columns. But that can wait until the lists are finished, when we know exactly which names have been changed and which haven't.
I've edited some more names to my list above by the way and shall try to get more about the Dutch version. I'll go to the library tomorrow to borrow the books.
Good job everybody. Immeritus rules!

Hey, Catz, my French edition of PS is "Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers". I have the same edition as those in France. Just thought...
Oh, and Whomping Willow, if I remember well, is "saule cogneur". But perhaps I'd need to check this out.
I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I decide to change my mind.

Woot! and YIKES! Wow, thanks everyone this is great so far!! OK, I'm definitely going to have to install Dreamwever on my regular computer since i'ts so much easier to work on. I don't like the layout of the current list either, Emma, I used Excel because I didn't have to mess with columns and rows and such at the start. But when it saved as a webpage - blegh! - So, I'll just save the current Excel file and web file to my memory key and switch to my laptop (has Dreamweaver--promised Mag a nice web table not icky mess). Anyway, yes, consider the current table that's up a first draft-- definitely a working draft, not the final product. I also like the idea of using a symbol for names and such that appear the same in translated edtions, so I'll get cracking on that as well.
Switching to the laptop means I can also be mobile whilst answering the door (Halloween 'Trick or Treat'ers will start stopping by for candy soon). So, I'll get to work adding all the new entries to the list (I may be invisible for a little bit). Oh, and PadfootStar, I really like your idea to include potions and spells and such. I'm going to be pretty busy with the names and things for the present, but I definitely think this idea should be incorporated into this project, so I'll start setting aside room for them as well.
*hands Halloween candy out to thread* Enjoy!
Keep digging!
No way...

Iif the un-changed names are gonna be in the column, I think they should have a different colour so they can easily be distinguished from the interesting ones. Otherwise you'd have to read pretty carefully to spot the translations.

Hi everyone! This project is really coming along nicely. Thank you to everyone who has posted so far. You've all kept me pretty busy today but I definitely don't mind when it's for a good cause <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START --><img src=http://pages.prodigy.net/siriusblack/boards/smilies/thumb.gif ALT=":ok]<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->
A few posting requests:
1. Rather than edit in to your original posts with new additions for the list, could you post new posts within the thread? This will help me keep straight what posts I've already been through and which I have not.
2. When you add in the translated text, could you make it a different color? (Thanks for bringing this up, Emma!) I know this may make posting a little longer, but it makes it easier for me and everyone else to read.
To answer some questions: Spellotape is the adhesive tape that Ron uses to tape his wand back together after it breaks in CoS; it comes up fairly frequently in the series.
Durmstrang and Beauxbatons are the other wizarding schools which participate in the TriWizard Tournament, so you should be able to find these in GoF.
In case you missed the link in my original post on page 1, here is the link to the current list . It's fairly large, so it may take a while to load. Be patient! The table borders are acting a little strange, so I'll try and fix that as soon as I post this.
Thanks again and keep digging!
Edit: The borders are only showing up when there is information in the box, so there are blank spaces under languages/names or terms that I have not received information for. Oh, and the table sizes adjust automatically to the length of information in them, so as things are added in, they adjust. This makes some tables larger than others and some columns larger than others, but at least in this table the information is centered correctly underneath the appropriate language.
If you don't wish to type in all the names/terms that are the same in your language edition as in the English editions, just tell me in your post that those names/terms left off are identical to English. Something like, "Those names/terms not included are the same as in English." Right now I'm just using a boring asterisk (*) when terms/names are the same, but I'd like to find a cool symbol or HP specific graphic. If someone wants to find one and post it to the thread, that'd be great!
No way...

Yay, the list's nifty Pen!
There's a slip-up though, Magistra Pomfrey, Magistra Hooch and Decanus Thomas are listed as Romanian names when they should be in the Latin section, so you might want to take a look at that.
I'll be back with more names soon enough.
