Ok, here are your questions. Thanks for waiting so patiently.

1. Remus Lupin and Sirus Black have been friends since their days at Hogwarts. Please explain their friendship and how incidents throughout the book (the Whomping Willow, the death of the Potters, Sirius' imprisonment) have affected their friendship, for the good and the bad.

2. Name your favorite scene with Sirius Black in it, then explain why you enjoy it as much as you do.

Those are your questions. Please use correct grammar and spelling at all times, and be creative. Use as much detail as you can, use quotes, scenes, examples, whatever you want. You may use Book 5 in your answers. WRITE A LOT! WRITE A LOT! There's no such thing as writing too much. Let's put it like this: You haven't got a shot unless you write your heart out. Be creative, be thoughtful, be organized, and write as much as you can. Good luck.

Thank you for giving me a chance to become a member of the board! Here is my first answer. Hope you like it. Please excuse any grammar mistakes, my English isn’t that great yet.

1. Remus Lupin and Sirius Black have been friends since their days at Hogwarts. Please explain their friendship and how incidents throughout the book (the Whomping Willow, the death of the Potters, Sirius' imprisonment) have affected their friendship, for the good and the bad.

I believe that when something big happens between two friends, their friendship is bound to change in some way. It can either become stronger, weaker, or it can come to an end. Anyway, here’s how I think Sirius’ and Remus’ friendship has gone throughout the years.

I believe the Marauders where all in the same house. Gryffindor. James and Sirius probably became friends immediately, Peter must have tagged along with them as soon as he realized that the two boys were good company, but I think Remus was more reluctant in becoming friends with the three boys. Being a werewolf caused most of the wizard society to be against him. And even though no one at Hogwarts except for Dumbledore and possibly the staff knew he was a werewolf, he was reluctant in making friends, afraid that sooner or later they would find out the truth about him and hurt him. But Sirius and James reached out to Remus and eventually he gave, and so the Marauders were born.

Since then, the Marauders friendship just grew more and more every day. The years at Hogwarts were Sirius’ best since he got away from his family, and Remus’ best since he got to be with his three great friends that could always help him forget about his troubles. Though there came a time in which Remus was sure his happiness was coming to an end, his friends had figured out his secret. But to Remus surprise, his friends didn’t desert him, even better, they were now determined to help him in any way possible.

Sirius had a big heart, he once said “Then you should have died! Died rather than betray your friends, as we would have done for you!” – PoA Ch. 19 pg. 375. I think Sirius always felt like that. He must’ve loved the Marauders like the family he wished he’d had, and love them enough to do anything for them, even die. And Remus, well since his bite he thought no one would ever so mush as consider him as a friend, yet he had found Sirius. Sirius, a guy who would turn into an Animagus, something highly dangerous not to mention illegal, just so he could ease the pain Remus had to go through during the full moon. That action must’ve made the friendship between the two friends stronger than ever, which is saying something.

Yet Sirius wasn’t as kind and considerate with Slytherins like Snape as he was with his friends. He got tired of Snivellus always trying to figure out where Remus went every full moon. So during their sixth year Sirius, obviously not thinking as the smart guy he could be but rather as the prankster he was, told Snape the instructions on how to get past the Whomping Willow. Sirius thought it would be amusing for Snape to run into a full grown werewolf. Fortunately James stopped Sirius’ little prank before things got out of hand. But the damage was done, Snape knew about Remus. And even though Remus speaks about the whole incident quite calmly while they’re at the Shrieking Shack (apparently he doesn’t hold a grudge about it), my guess is that he was furious with Sirius for some time. I think all of the Marauders gave Sirius a hard time for a while, at least the silent treatment (believe me, doesn’t sound like much but the silent treatment can drive you mad!). But in the end they forgave him, Sirius obviously regretted the whole thing and in truth, who could ever stay mad at Sirius? So I think the accident caused Sirius’ and Remus’ friendship to become a little testy for a while, but soon enough things went back to how they were. Maybe things became better, Sirius must’ve been behaving quite well after the incident to compensate for the whole mess.

Then came a happy time for the Marauders, but something that I think may have caused Remus to realize a little more that even tough he would always be Sirius’ friend, and very loved one at that, he would never be his best friend. When the time for James and Lily’s wedding came, Sirius was made best man. When Harry was born Sirius was made his godfather. And when the Potters went into hiding Sirius was made the Secret Keeper. I don’t think that Sirius and James being best friends really affected Sirius and Remus’ friendship, but I think that it hurt Remus to know that he would always be a step behind the two.

Then there came that period in which the world was really, really messed up. Voldemort was becoming stronger every day and The Order thought that someone was passing information about the Potter’s to Voldemort. Someone was a spy. These is when things became a little testy between Sirius and Remus. Neither of them thought Peter could be the spy since he’d always been too much of a coward to do something as dangerous as join the evil bastard (Voldemort). So they suspected each other, it hurt them to think that the other was the spy, after all they had always been great friends, like brothers. But I think the fact that Remus was a werewolf kept nagging at Sirius and werewolves after all were dark creatures. And Remus might have thought about Sirius’ family, Regulus was a Death Eater, so maybe, even though Sirius had always said he hated his family, he might’ve taken a chance to get their approval. So I think the whole “who could the spy be” period thingy damaged Sirius’ and Remus’ friendship.

Then the worst happened. The Potters died. Now, I don’t think Sirius was thinking a lot about Remus at the time. He was devastated about his best friend’s deaths, about James and Lily. He wanted to murder Peter, the rat! And he was furious with himself for it was his fault Peter had been able to hand the Potter’s to Voldemort in the first place. He also didn’t have much time to think since the Ministry was after him. Like Sirius, Remus was heartbroken about the deaths of James and Lily Potter. But unlike Sirius he did think about their friendship, or the end of it. I think that at the time Remus hated Sirius. How could he do that to his friends? He betrayed them all! His doubt’s about Sirius being the spy had been confirmed. And then what Remus heard Sirius had done afterwards. Killed Peter! He had killed Peter and a bunch of muggles and just laughed. Remus’ hate for Sirius could only be compared to the pain he felt.

Then, it was Sirius’ turn to reflect on his friendship with Remus. I suppose that since he was alone in Azkaban for 12 years he must’ve thought about Remus at some point. He assumed Remus probably hated him at the moment as much as Sirius hated Peter. That probably hurt. Not only had he lost James, Lily, his freedom, and Peter was on the lose. But the only true Marauder left hated his guts and would probably never know the truth of what happened and die hating Sirius’ guts. That sucked. So anyway, during Sirius’ imprisonment both Remus and Sirius gave up on their friendship.

But soon Remus and Sirius where going to be united again. When Sirius escaped from Azkaban he wasn’t thinking too much about Remus. Sure he may have thought about looking for him, but that would be only after he killed the son of a ***** Pettigrew. He also had to see Harry, explain things to him. He couldn’t live with the thought of his best friend’s son hating him! And while Sirius had all those things to think about and accomplish, Remus must’ve been confused about what to think. The only Marauder left besides him, had escaped from Azkaban. He wondered lots of things, why he had done it? How he had done it? What he would do? I f he would look for him? But he didn’t know what to feel. He had hated him for so long. But he had also missed him a lot. So, during the whole “Sirius on the lose” thing their friendship didn’t really improve either. Until....

Remus couldn’t believe what he’d just seen on the Marauder’s map. Peter, alive?! But that's impossible! It couldn’t be,unless....unless he had been the cause of the Potter’s death! This meant that Sirius was innocent! He hurried to the Shack were he found the trio, Sirius, and a rat. After clearing some doubts he still had about what had really happened that Halloween, Remus *walked to Black’s side, seized his hand, pulled him to his feet so that Crookshanks fell to the floor, and embraced Black like a brother.* - PoA Ch. 17 pg. 344. I believe this action just proves that in spite of the hate Remus had felt towards Sirius for the past 12 years, finding out that he had in fact been innocent eliminated all those hateful thoughts and feelings and brought out how much he’d missed his friend during those 12 painful years, and that he still loved him like a brother. They both apologized for suspecting each other of being the spy, and got to explaining to Harry and the others the truth. Although Peter escaped in the end, Harry now knew the truth about his godfather and the friendship between Sirius and Remus was back. Now stronger than ever since now, not only were they the only true Marauders left, but they were glad to have each other back after 12 long years.

I think that after that, with Sirius hiding from the Ministry and Remus trying to find a new job, they didn’t really get to spend a lot of time together. They may have been sending owls to each other but probably that was it. But then the whole Voldemort returning stuff happened and Sirius was sent to live with Remus for a while. So while they had to work a lot and gather up the Order’s members, they also got to spend a lot of time with each other. So I think that that quality time together and the time they got to spend at Grimmauld Place really helped them solve any issues they might’ve had between them and that was probably when their friendship was at its best. They probably talked about the good old days and enjoyed the time they now had.

Then of course the two friends were separated by something terrible and unstoppable at the Department of Mysteries, Sirius' death. Sirius must’ve felt both happy and sad to go since he was leaving Remus and Harry and the rest behind, yet he would also see James, he was going to see James again. But Remus, Remus was probably shattered, he probably felt worse then he ever had. After all, we all know that the last man standing has seen the others fall. So Remus now became the last true Marauder, and is now mourning the death of his friend, and thinking back at all the memories they shared, the good and the bad. Just like I did for the past few days.

So there's my first answer. I might add a little poem too, since you said you wanted creativity, but if I don't it would be because it really, really sucked in the end. Anyway I am working in the second answer, but I hope that if I don't have it by the due date you might give me some extra time. I might have it. But if I don't it would be because this week is exam week for me and since I want to do well in both my exams and my answers to your questions....well just know that I am working hard and doing the best I can. I hope you liked my first answer!

sincerely,

I wanted to tell you to keep up the good work and that I await your next answer eagerly! You can add the poem if you want, I always love creativity. Just don't kill yourself over it, because I'm certain what you have right now will suffice.

Let it become common knowledge that I am the world's worst poet to the day. But just so you know that I did try. Btw, expect my second answer either today or tomorrow! But anyway, the poem. To avoid any confusion, its from Remus' point of view OK?

<!--EZCODE UNDERLINE START--><span style="text-decoration:underline]We were brothers[/color]<!--EZCODE UNDERLINE END-->

I look out my window and think,

at how you and James came to be,

such good friends with a guy like me,

even after you knew I was sick.

I remember our group, the Marauders.

We four were as good as brothers!

We were Hogwarts most lovable pranksters,

and none of us had any masters.

Remember the pranks on the Slytherins?

Blowing their homework to smithereens?

yet you and James are to blame,

for the pranks we played on Snape.

I once was worried 'bout Snivellus,

remember the lil' "prank" Sirius?

you told Snape what he ought to do,

one night during the full moon.

Yet I never could stay mad at him, (sirius)

nor I think either could Jim. (jim, jimmy, james)

After all, Sirius became an Animagus.

To remind me who I was. Remus.

Then came a time of happiness,

for us, for Lily, and for James.

Yet knowing you were best man,

caused pain to my human side.

And then you made me feel devastated,

when the Ministry told me "he's busted!",

and it really increased my hate,

to hear 'bout poor Peter's fate.

Twelve years you were in Azkaban.

Twelve years I felt like in a desert land.

But then came news, you were near,

I think it was Harry's third year.

Then you told us all what had happened.

You told Harry about his father.

All my hate was soon forgotten,

and you became a godfather.

So once again we were friends.

But things came to ugly ends.

My comfort is knowing you're happy,

That you're heaven's lovable puppy.

Well, here’s my second answer! I really hope you like it. I want to thank you for taking the time to read it and for giving me a chance to apply to your wonderful board. Cheers.

2. Name your favorite scene with Sirius Black in it, then explain why you enjoy it as much as you do.

Wow. This is a harder question than I had initially thought it would be. Like I said in the topic of “Re-readings” over at the Anything Black Goes section, I pretty much enjoy any scene with Sirius Black in it. I like the guy, I love his personality and the way he cares for people so much, and I think it refreshing whenever I read about him. But after reading through the books a couple of times and much thought, I came to the conclusion that my favorite scene with Sirius in it is the one in which Sirius, Snape and Harry are all having a little “chat” about Occlumency lessons. I’ve always liked to argue with people, not in a way that either of us gets angry mind you, just debating a little. And even though Sirius and Snape aren’t friends at all and did end up getting very angry at each other, I found it interesting to see them argue, and very funny. And I liked that Sirius was actually pretty good, he had some good come backs. Anyway, here are some of my favorite parts of the scene:

Quote::
“You know,” said Sirius loudly, leaning back on his rear chair legs and speaking to the ceiling, “I think I’d prefer it if you didn’t give orders here, Snape. It’s my house, you see.”

First of all, I thought the position Sirius was in, casual and all was pretty sexy so I liked that. And Sirius telling Snape how he pretty much had the power to throw him out of the house if he wanted to was very cool in my opinion.

Quote::
“I suppose because it is a headmaster’s privilege to delegate less enjoyable tasks,” said Snape silkily. “I assure you I did not beg for the job.” He got to his feet. “I will expect you at six o’ clock on Monday evening, Potter. My office. If anybody asks, you are taking Remedial Potions. Nobody who has seen you in my classes could deny you need them.”

I know this doesn’t have anything to do with Sirius, but I thought I’d put it in since I thought it was quite funny.

Quote::
“How touching,” Snape sneered. “But surely you have noticed that Potter is very like his father?”

“Yes, I have,” said Sirius proudly.

“Well then, you know he’s so arrogant that criticism simply bounces off him,” Snape said sleekly.

Sirius pushed his chair roughly aside and strode around the table toward Snape, pulling out his wand as he went; Snape whipped out his own. They were squaring up to each other, Sirius looking livid, Snape calculating, his eyes darting from Sirius’s wand tip to his face.

OK, so what I like here is the fact that Sirius shows that he is proud of Harry. That he is very pleased with the fact that Harry resembles James. So I like how that shows just how much he cared for his friend. I also like how Sirius showed he cared for them even more by getting so mad and defensive at Snape’s remark about James and Harry. And I like how Snape seems a little afraid of Sirius.

Quote::
“Tell me, how is Lucius Malfoy these days? I expect he’s delighted his lapdog’s working at Hogwarts, isn’t he?”

“Speaking of dogs,” said Snape softly, “did you know that Lucius Malfoy recognized you last time you risked a little jaunt outside? Clever idea, Black, getting yourself seen on a safe station platform...gave you a cast-iron excuse not to leave your hidey-hole in future, didn’t it?”

Sirius raised his wand.

Like I said before. I found it really interesting to see the two of them arguing. Although I didn’t like Snape saying what he did, I did like what Sirius said.

Quote::
“Are you calling me a coward?” roared Sirius, trying to push Harry out of the way, but Harry would not budge.

“Why, yes, I suppose I am,” said Snape.

“Harry --- get --- out --- of --- it!” snarled Sirius, pushing him out of the way with his free hand.

This just made me laugh. I found it funny, the image of Sirius struggling to push Harry out of the way so he could beat Snape (the slimy git) to a pulp. Funny stuff.

Another thing I liked about the scene in general, is the the fact that in these scene Sirius is healthier, better, in a house. In other scenes his running away, unhealthy, dirty, and didn't have a place to stay at. Sure he is trapped an all, but at least he is now clean, he has food, and he is with other people ( I now that he doesn't get to be with others too much but at least more than before right?).

Well, I could write about many other scenes with Sirius that I love, but my hand is starting to hurt and the question asked for only one. I hope you guys liked my 2nd answer! Oh and, thanks again for taking the time to read it and for giving me a chance to apply.

Sincerely,

puppyluv

That is one of the best answers I've read over the past few days. It was very genuine and very knowledgeable, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Congrats, you're definitely in, and I hope you stay around and enjoy yourself.
