Hello there. This is my first time posing a question but it is one that I am very interested in. I have been poking around on this board for hours and have not found the question so I will go ahead and pose it. This question is one which I would enjoy seeing an articulate and well thought out answer, not just fluff seen on many boards (so far this is the best I have visited).
Being a ravenclaw at heart I enjoy all-things-knowledge so here goes: If you were to open a cabinet and a boggart were to pop out, what would it be and why? I would like to see honest answers. Since this may not be an easy question for some to answer I will start out by stating my boggart.
The simple answer is that my boggart is nothing. Now before anyone freaks out and says that is impossible, let my give you the detailed version of my answer. My boggart is nothing because that is what I fear. I am afraid of my life turning out to be nothing. I have worked hard my entire life and never been handed anything for free. I want to make a difference, to change the way people see things. I want to step out and change everything for the better. I am deftly afraid of not being able to fulfill my goals. I am afraid they will fade to nothing. I now have a bachelors degree in communications and am now in the process of getting a masters. Eventually I will get my doctorate. It will forever be my fear that no matter what my education I will eventually fail and fade away.
So, my boggart is nothing because I am afraid of obscurity...what is yours?

Nice question. Very original.
As for what my boggart would be, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure it would be my pets, dead. I love my pets with all my heart, more than I love most people, and I'll be devestated when they go. I'm always worried every day when I wake up that something will happen to one of my animals.
Another thing it could possibly be is the ocean. I'm horridly afraid of the ocean. I'm not sure why, I mean, I never had a bad experience with it. I've always hated it, ever since I was a little boy. I can't stand being near it, looking at it (or pictures of it) or even hearing it. When I went to Florida this summer, I couldn't go to the beach with my friends because being near the ocean depresses me and scares me. Odd, huh?

When I first considered this question, immediately the first thing to pop into my mind was 'centipedes'. Ugh! They are hands down the most disgusting things to ever exist, no contest. And, as much as I like most creepy-crawlies, seeing a centipede is the one thing guaranteed to have me running from the room, screaming like a little girl.
But then I started thinking. Some stupid little bug with an unnatural number of legs can not be my greatest fear; It's just a bug, for heavens sake! And I'd like to think more of myself than that.
So I think my boggart would be my boss, handing me a broom, and telling me that I'm going to work the same low-paying, boring, repetitive and unimportant job for the rest of my life. Not reaching my full potential and never amounting to anything is my greatest fear. Honestly, nothing else could ever approach the amount of terror the thought of trudging through life, never graduating and having a decent, interesting way to fill my working days can fill me with.
*shudder*

This is very thought provoking....
I think about it, and I think I finally have an answer.
Being deathly allergic to bee and wasp stings, I thought my boggart would probably be some insanely big bee or wasp. I am freaked out by them, whenever I see them, because I am afraid it will sting me and I won't get to my epipen shot in time.
But then I thought about it some more, and it didn't make sense to me, that I should be deathly afraid of such a little bug that, in all honesty, doesn't sting people all that often.
Only other possibility is that, like Mrs. Weasley I also have an extreme fear that something will happen to my family. And that scares me more than a little bug with a stinger ever has.

A few days ago, I would not have been able to answer this question. Since I had my nightmare though, I realize I am deathly afraid of something. Death. Not death itself, mind you...but the personification of Death. Kind of like a mixture of David Bowie, Scott Weiland, and a skeleton.
In the dream, Death held me captive in a mall (don’t ask, I couldn’t tell you) and randomly decayed people in front of me...my mom was trying to ask me what was wrong and why I was with that terrible man (she couldn’t see what was going on) and I begged her to please leave before anything happened to her. Well, she didn’t listen.. and I’ll let you figure out what happened. >.<
So, yeah, my Boggart would be the personification of Death...

David Bowie! Wow. Labyrinth of hell. Or something. Not that I'm making light of the fear of Death himself, but to have him resemble David Bowie is something I kind of enjoy.
On to the topic at hand... After some consideration, although there's a multitude of things - like centipedes - that scare me, I think my boggart would be ignorance. I hate not knowing things. I read everything I can get my hands on, I want to be informed. One of my big fears is to end up like my ex-boyfriend, who doesn't see the necessity to go to college or expand his mind in any way. He thinks a good job is working night stock at Kroger.

Well, I thought about this and first thought--Oh! My boggart would be my Latin teacher because he scares me beyond the normal type of scare and like everyone else when i thought about this longer I had to change my boggart.
My Grandpa died this past year and I all could remember was his pale, plastic like skin and wishing so much that at one point I had convinced myself he was breathing that his chest was moving, but no.
But, what sticks out of my memory of his funeral the most is when I gave him, his corpse, a farewell peck on the cheek--I will never forget his skin and the thought that his oily eyes would open up and his hand would grab mine and I would be stuck in the coffin and no one would know and I would be buried alive next to a corpse.
So, my boggart would be myself buried alive with a corpse or a corpse in general -- or be handcuffed to a rotting corpse so we were face-to-face *shivers* like Mezentius from Aeneid... no no, no fun.

Hmmm.... well, I've always thought that the idea of a boggart was very simple. Most of my fears are kind of abstract, and couldn't really be expressed into something physical like a mummy or moon. So, what would happen to those people- would their next greatest fears be expressed instead?
My greatest fear, ever since I have been little has been two things: The future, as in ending up with some horrible life that I regret forever, such as with a job I hate or living in some little town (I hate little towns).
The other is utter alone-ness. Not in the sense of just being alone- that I'm fine with that (In fact, I like having a place to myself, etc). But rather being famliy-less, and friend-less. I'm not a very strong person (physically), and always have trouble getting jars and bottles open. I have always been able to find someone to do it for me, or help me when I don't understand something. It creeps me out to think some day there may not be anyone who would open it for me. I don't think it is specifically the jar thing, but rather a representation of having someone to turn to when I need help. It always freaks me out when I here about someone being killed, and no one noticing they were gone or missing until their next door neighbor couldn't stand the smell or something. Or an old person who never had any kids, and everyone they know has died. That idea freaks me out to no end.
I can't think of any way to represent the two above ather than, as it is said above, as nothing. But obviously, nothing is not going to scare me. Maybe a crystal ball that shows these scenarios? I'm not sure...
If it went to my next fear that could be represented, it would probably be a spider. Scratch that- not one spider. Large spiders don't scare me much- only those little ones that go insanely fast for something so small, with all it's little legs moving hyperspeed, with crazy colors waiting in little corners or crevaces to bite you. I think the boggart would probably turn into a swarm of tiny creepy crawly spiders. Oh my... if that happened in my DADA class, there is no way I could make fun of it. I would be worse than Hermione and her failing grade. I think I'd have to go to the psychiastrist...

Siri, you lie! Stuck in a room with me with the walls adorned in S&M merchandise is your boggart. <img src=http://pages.prodigy.net/siriusblack/boards/smilies/clap.gif ALT=":clap]
At first thought, I would have to say roaches. Nasty, crap eating, disgusting, nasty...ugh...
But, thinking further like the rest of you guys, I would have to say is getting old. No, not in the sense that "ew, she's 40? Thats sooo old!" i'm talking about 80's and 90's. I don't ever want to live that long. Its selfish, but I do not want my life revolved around doctors visits, pitiful stares from my children and grandchildren, and a failing body that used to keep up with the best of them.
Ahh...I know I will be missed by my loved ones when I a gone, but I want to be remembered as a vivacious woman, not a sickly elderly person that couldn't even go to the bathroom by herself.

Ooh. Widow, I agree. I think growing old must be my secondary boggart. I would hate to end up like some of those people you see, going out in their wheel chairs with their oxygen. It's sad stuff.

Seriously though, there aren't many things that I fear (it's amazing I'm not dead) so I can't think of anything that would truly freak me out. So my boggart would be a pretty big suprise. theangrymuse dot com
Hey Sirius Lives 56, if you wander over to the Magical Mischief thread, you can find a topic there dedicated to testing your siggy or avatar.
One suggestion, don't post, click the "Preview" box then hit "Add Reply" and it shows you how your post will look like. If it is not satisfactory, then you can change it to your liking.
But for the our sanity and yours, please poke around the board before posting and check out the rules!
Thanks.
