No, not the TLC car show - I mean we are overhaulin' pretty soon. This seems to be an annual thing at this point, I dunno. We've gotten to the point where we've outgrown our space on our site proper, and perhaps these boards as well. This means that I have been seriously looking into other avenues in terms of hosting and board solutions (and yes, I am also looking for a reliable free chat client).
This is the best time to take in suggestions for this community because we are having to kind of start from scratch, in a way. So if there is anything that you want to see on our site, anything you want done on our boards - anything at all, no matter how farfetched you think it is, let me know right here. You never know what we may be capable of doing, and I have no idea what you want, other than what I give you.
Also, if you happen to know of good reliable hosts, chat clients, software, etc, you can also recommend me stuff.
Help me get a free iPod , and then get one yourself.

Eek! So we're actually moving?! Yay! I mean woot! Haha. Um sorry about that. Anyway, here's my input on the matter.
Maybe some will disagree, but I think we should get rid of the paw-rankings ... Well, we could keep the paws, but everybody should have the same amount of them, in customizable colors that is.
From what I've seen thus far, the whole 1st year, 7th year, witch etc. thing brings upon discrimination issues. Hm, I'm starting to sound like a lawyer, so I won't say more... but keep in mind that overlooking 'Muggles' for what they are is not actually politically correct. Heh. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif" />
What's next, I was thinking that maybe we could get a Search engine that really works, therefore making it easier for everyone to search for different posts after subject, user name of the poster and contents.
What's more, we could use a HBP section to discuss the new book. Maybe this way the noobie spamming will decrease with time.
And about chat things, I think we could go for a Java mIRC integrator - or whatever it's called - that links directly to out very own mIRC channel. I've been using that kind of chat for years now and I never had virus problems because of it, even though the threat is out there. It all depends on the channel you're on and the other users that use the same channel. The best part is that we wouldn't have a user limit, like I understood we have now. So, maybe we'll get a new attendance record.
About hosts, I've been looking around for a while and I think the Invisions boards are the best choice. There's also Forum Experts, but it's all up to you.
Umm, that's about all for now heh. Oooh, don't forget to consider acquiring more smilies heh. <img border=0 src="http://pages.prodigy.net/siriusblack/boards/smilies/redbiggrin.gif" />

Definitely, Invision boards are the best I've been on. They're easy to moderate/admin and very customizable. In short, they're neat.
Mag, next time we're both on MSN, would you put me up to date on stuff? I've started Uni again and I don't know how busy I will be, but it's not looking that well, so I'd like to be at least up to date on that stuff. :DD
I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I decide to change my mind.

No problem Mag, I'm glad I could help. Um, I was wondering - seeing as I'm not all that farimiliar with host changes - whether we could keep some of the threads we have here.
I remember reading on Invisions that admins can upload/download info off the boards for safe keeping - or something like that - ... do the EzBoards have something similar? There's so much good stuff on the boards right now that it'd be a real shame to lose them all.

Well, we have to move on then...but I really liked some things in here...and I love the way immeritus actually LOOKS. It's great!
And probably keeping all the topics from all the forums page 1-3 perhaps...new things... we should get rid of old and unused things
And as Miru said, get rid of the paws... In fact, I think that there should be no ranking at all...<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D]<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->
Another thing I had in mind is the spamming control: a person who gets caught by the mods spamming should have a "ticket". If you get a number of "tickets" (let's say three or four) you will not be able to post on immeritus or chat with the people here for a couple of days... That I think will sure scare people and they'll pay more attention to spamming.
I'm sure you heard of Clare's summarizing thing... maybe we can have a forum just for that...and the threads should be the chapters....dunno....just an idea....i'll talk to clare about it
I like all of the other ideas. They're great...
Oh, and when do you think this will happen???
I looked on the invision boards... THEY LOOK ABSOLUTELY GREAT! so cool!!!!

I kind of liked the paws. People come on chat and they say "Oh my god!!! I'm in 3rd year!!!!!!"
The paws are also a way of telling seniority from newer members. If someone has two paws (like me) you can tell they have only been here 2 months maybe (or they just haven't posted a lot).
So I like the paws. I agree with everything above this. A HBP forum and all that good stuff just I hope we keep the paws.
*EDIT* I also have one more suggestion. Is it possible to delete a topic entirely. Becaus on the first page of the daily prophet there are 4-5 topics like: "The door is open" "The door opens (jkrowling.com)" and so on. So I was wondering if in the invision boards you can do that?

I also like the paws.. and every single message board I am on (all the other ones are hosted by Invision Boards) also have rankings. I don't know if its optional, but they do. Any intelligent person will know that just because someone only has 32 posts, instead of 320 posts, that doesn't mean they have anything less important to say. They add a bit of colour and individuality; if you're going to get rid of paws, might as well get rid of personal titles too.
When I first joined this EZ board, I didn't like it as much as the Invision boards that I am on, but I now like it more. It has the chat, and better smilies, and I can use html codes instead of having to use codes with the square brackets... [ ] which take me forever to type out.... But if you must move, you must move, right? And you could do a lot worse than Invision boards (which have customizable layouts, etc).
I find IRC chat clients hard to work with. Of course, I haven't been doing IRC for very long.
I'm sure whatever you guys come up with will be great, and I'll love Immeritus no matter where it goes.
Cheers!~Des~

An interesting scene followed:
Peaches was entangled with Lucius, Accio ensnarled with Oliver, Mari, Eru, and Emma were taking turns snogging Sirius, Blackdog was engaging Kingsley in a bit of wand polishing, Evra was working on Krum, Pincey was having a go at teaching Fred some Pincifying, Des and Jas were kissing on George; Heart was... well, Heart had no problem with any of the men in the tub, so she pulled James back out of her pocket and explained a few of the finer tub points to him, that he had overlooked in the other post.

Um, I feel like I've started a revolution by phrasing the whole paw thing wrong. The paws are nice, the paws are pretty, the paws are good.. I like paws! <img border=0 src="http://pages.prodigy.net/siriusblack/boards/smilies/bl_paw.gif" />
What bugs me is that muggles and newbies in general get shrugged off for their ranking, and they feel the need of improving that by spamming all around until they achieve upper level paws. By no means am I suggesting taking down the paws, just equalizing them for everybody. Or if we keep the current paw system, at least we could get around fine without the 1st year - 7th year stuff. Aren't post counts enough? Why do we need something more to tell us appart from the others?
And don't pick on the Custom Titles... those you get after getting accepted into the SB FanClub, and they're simply a pretty nifty thing to have. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif" />

Aww, I like the paws. If you get really pretty ones you can make them match your avatar........
Right. Just me who does that, then?

Mods and Officers here can delete topics, but we don't delete topics that have just been closed so the person that posted it can come back and see the post has been moved/closed. We do, sometimes, take a sweep of the forum and delete everything that was closed and is old. It depends of the moderator/forum, though. If you think a forum is too cluttered, you can EZ the mod(s) taking care of it. Invision boards have the same feature, so it will work sensibly the same way.
I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I decide to change my mind.

I code ranks and paws ALL the time, and it's tedious. I still want them.
Paws and ranks MEAN something to the upper levels, especially to those who painstakingly earned every last post. Even now, our posting gap between ranks is not so large, but one day it will be. Muggles and First Years do spam, but they also get caught and they get introduced to some Immeritus Tough Lovin', and they learn to cope. Cinescape was boring when no one had a post count or a rank, really. They thought it would eliminate spam, and it didn't. People will still post short, stupid things. No one will be able to tell how many they do before they are aprehended though.
I like ranks and paws. I just would like them to automatic with custom titles! *adds that to top of wishlist*

Okay, my two cents worth...
Keep the paws. When I get to second year, I'll know I've earned them with good, quality posts.
Automatic updates with custom titles - I still haven't been bestowed with my title (not that I've been pestering Siri, either) - but I can't wait.
peginc.com has a great forum, but they host it themselves. I'm not sure what the software is, but it's not shared, just theirs, and that makes it extra special. I don't know that we could buy a server and pay someone to maintain it.
I would like us to have our own domain! I still don't know what our official website is - I just tell people to go to jk's site and click on it there. Wouldn't www.immeritus.org be ultra cool? (Even cooler if someone in the uk could maintain it for us!) www.immeritus.uk ?
I like the chat we have here, but maybe some sort of tutorial would be nice. It's taken me forever to learn how to put a single dern smilie in the chat room, and don't even ask me about pasting! Ancient Technology! Control-V, indeed! Maybe a more modern Windows-based program. And it would be nice if some sort of reminder came across in the chat room, like our custom titles or something, in the side bar. When someone joins the chat, I have to check their profile to figure out if I've met them before...
If I think of more, I'll let you know.
-Muse
P. S. Custom siggys need to be easier - my ezboard siggy help window has never worked, therefore, no siggy.

Well, Muse, you do have a sig, it says Muse, but you need to assign a color to it so that it can show up.
I appreciate the feedback on the paws, but unless it is a unanimous decision among the officers, that is not gonna change. I think we all arelly like the paws and ranks. I agree that people abuse the system, but that will happen whether people are keeping track like that or some other way. That solution is akin to covering the sun with your thumb. It doesn't take care of the problem and it punishes those who use it correctly.
As far as peginc.com's boards, that is actually exactly, to the tee what I plan on using right now. It is not their own, and infact, they are using phpbb, which is a free opensource software that is highly customizable, even if they don't really want to customize it. I took a look at the other boards that everyone, including Hermi, recommend, and I have to say that I am impressed. Overwhelmingly impressed, and for what we paid for here, we can purchase a lifetime license with a hosted java chat client. I dunno. It's Saturday night and I don't want to think about this anymore.
Thanks for all the interest though. I will come back to this later.
Help me get a free iPod , and then get one yourself.
