This maybe a silly thread I don't know, but every one knows that Lupin hasnt been used alot in Ootp and not used once in Gof and i wonder if JK isholding on to him for a special reason.
He could be the HBP I mean he is half blood isn't he?
Also we might be looking at the title wrong, some of you guys are suggsting prince of the half bloods but the title is half blood prince so they don't neccesarily have to be prince of anything. It could mean a saviour or something like that.
I don't know it could be anybody. You know how JK has a character in the back ground and then brings them out, like Ginny for instance she wasn't much of a character in the first book. Lupins turn could be coming again. Also wouldn't DD (although a very good theory) become clear as being the half blood prince if revealed. He is Head of Hogwarts. Hogwarts is populated by many half bloods.
We also havn't heard about Lupins family or anything either.
Oh well its only a thought and its up to you guys whether its a one of any consequence

Your thoughts please.... I'll change the title of your topic to reflect more on what you want to talk about.

I'd love to see more Lupin, and I think it would be interesting if he was the Half-Blood Prince. (Although it totally throws my version of Lupin's family off.) I've been theorizing that the "he" in the snippet JKR revealed is actually Lupin's dad, and that lends a sliver more support to the concept.
That said, I kind of doubt it.
JKR said she toyed with the title Half Blood Prince in the second book. Now, granted, she did say all traces of the Half Blood Prince plotline were eradicated from the second book, BUT, one other thing she said was she was really looking forward to writing Prisoner of Azkaban because that's when you meet Professor Lupin, one of her favorite characters. And that right there more than anything makes me think Lupin's not the half blood prince.
It IS interesting though that Lupin's the only confirmed half-blood in MWPP.
I tend to think Lupin's mysteries are more centered on what he's done than who he is. There's only so much mystery you can pack into one character before you hit implausibility, but then, I guess she could do it.
But I hope we get more Lupin in book 6!

I agree with you now, your points make alot of sense. I just have no idea who could be the HBP it must be some one we don' t know or some one were not expecting. Well we still have to find out what hes doing for the order that's so important cos thats another thing that's killing me.

Which snippet? The one that was behind the door a while back? Hmmm, this is interesting.
I would definitely like to see more Lupin in book six. I'm wondering if he will later become a Sirius-like figure in Harry's life, since he WAS one of his best friends...
He could be the HBP. No evidence to shoot it down. But somehow, I never pictured him for it.
I had a weird idea though. What if the half-blood prince isn't really half blood? Like, he's just a figure that all the half bloods look up to or something. I know, it's not at all likely. But I like to come up with obscure theories that make no sense sometimes.;)

^^^ That's not outrageous at all, HermioneGranger89. Have you been here yet? That idea about a non-half-blood that half-bloods look up to has come up in several threads and been linked to DD, so many of us are thinking the same thing.
Naturally, I would love Lupin to be the HBP just because I think he deserves some sort of title besides 'werewolf'. I'm also wondering, though, if 'prince' is an actual royal title, though, or a metaphor for something else. With Lupin, though, the fact that he has a home of some sort (in which Sirius was told to 'lie low') has always made me suspicious. If he's so unemployable because he's a werewolf, how can he afford a home? Was it left to him? By whom? What kind of a home is it? Too many questions....

Welcome to Immeritus, siriusblackbackpls! Actually, Lupin is a half-blood; JK confirmed it in her World Book Day chat (transcripts available at Mugglenet). See also the HP Lexicon here .

The only reasons I think he is HBP because everyone knows he is a half blood, he has the calm characteristics of a prince (I think so anyway) and we still havn't heard much about his back ground, only about his years in school with James, Sirius and Wormtail. Hes all very distant these days compared to the other characters. We even heard about Sirius background and Tonks! But still we here nothing of Lupin. Is Jk going to make Harry and Lupin closer and insert a scene where he tells Harry bout his child hood? There are heaps of possibilities. His presence in the book thus far hasn't been significant. The only time he was significant was in POA. Ah well, I continue to hope.

That is very intresting!!!
I would never have thought about it. It gives it a new twist. I'm going to think about that more.

Post subject: Lupin as HBP? And another theory

lupin as the half blood prince? i never thought about that. It does make snense, now that i hear the idea. But here's another theory: here is no half blood prince. I know it sounds crazy, but I've always had that idea. I mean, it could be a general term. You know, maybe even a half blood could "rule". But then, JKR's titles have always been very specific. It probably isn't true, but there isa small chance.
Back to Lupin. That also makes sense. Way more than my theory does anyway. He is a half breed, so he could easily be considered half blood. And werewolfs are considered dirty, just like half bloods.

Lupin cannot be the Half-Blood Prince. In a 1999 interview with Barnes and Noble Jo is asked which book is her favorite so far and she responds:
The first book will always have a special place in my heart, because it was the first book I ever published. However, I prefer the plot of CHAMBER OF SECRETS. And just to confuse the issue, I was looking forward to writing the third book from the start of the first because that's when Professor Lupin appears, and he is one of my favorite characters in all seven books.
In another interview, she says that while she was writing the first book, she was planning out the other six as well. We can then infer that Lupin was always destined to be in Book III. If the HBP plot-line was originally in CoS, then the Half-Blood Prince would've had to be introduced in CoS. Since she says here that Lupin was always going to be in PoA, we know that he was never going to be in CoS.
And note that the HBP plot was dropped after the first draft was written. If she had planned Lupin while writing the first book, then it logically follows that at that point in time the HBP plot was Book II.
We are living in a time when flowers are trying to live on flowers instead of growing on good rain and black loam. Even fireworks for al their prettiness come from the chemistry of the earth. Yet somehow we think we can grow, feeding on flowers and fireworks, without completing the cycle back to reality. -Faber, Fahrenheit 451 Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bsiriusblackfanclub.showUserPublicProfile?gid=flowersandfireworks@siriusblackfanclub>flowersandfireworks[/url] at: 1/22/05 2:48 pm

Awesome thread. I just can't see Lupin as the HBP though...
I think the HBP was in the second book.

flowersandfireworks, I am sorry, but I do not understand why your post makes it so Lupin cannot be HBP. Could you please clarify?
And about Lockhart, do you have any other reasons? She might have introduced him for a different reason. I do think though, that he plays a part in future books. The scene with him is too long. The only other possibility I can think of for her reintroducing him is too say something about Frank and Alice Longbottom. It could be that they might recover, as JKR is showing Lockhart recover. What do you think?
