I just looked on imdb.com and it shows that Jason Isaacs is signed on as Lucius, BUT it now has been updated to include Emma, Daniel, and Rupert as being in the film. Does anyone know any more about the 5th movie??

I know GoF hasn't come out yet, but the 5th movie should be in the works soon.

They're only in pre-production, aka, the planning stage, and the director says they don't begin filming until next spring. The release date isn't until 2007...arghhhhh... I guess we have to keep checking back on IMDB to see if Gary Oldman signs for this one. No Gary might mean Sirius isn't dead (wishful thinking - I know)??????!!!

I guess, knowing what happens, I'm not eager yet, because we are so close to the story actually advancing with HBP. If Sirius pops his handsome head up in HBP, ghostly, canine or otherwise, then I will start thinking about the film franchise more positively after that...

annasmum I remember reading somewhere that they had signed on just recently. I was so surprised that you said it hadn't been updated that I checked myself. (I just can't see another person playing Harry, Ron or Hermione.) It has been updated recently...probably today. Maybe the producers say your post and figured there would be talk of a boycott.

I just wonder now which scenes will be important enough to keep and what will be lost. With GOF being made into a two hour movie, the hope of a longer movie for a longer book is now out the window. I'm worried I know that they can't be completely true to the books but a shorter movie just doesn't seem right.

What if they *gasp* cut Sirius death out? *gasps* That I believe would be a true injustice to the books. Harry's whole attitude in the sixth book will be a direct result of Sirius' death. Has anyone herd what they were thinking of cutting?

When they say the release date will be in 2007... they better be talking about JANUARY!!!

I know most people here hate the movies for butchering the books... but you have to admit that aside from the books, they are good movies.

And I really can't see how they could cut Sirius out. The scene at the Ministry is the climax of the book... they'd be NUTS to cut that out.

I really hope they sign on Gary again. There's no excuse to change adult actors unless they quit or die.

I don't think that January would be a logical release date. As I stated in a different post, the studio is doing the Potter series in order to make a bag full of money. The more showings they can get in theaters, the more money they make. Since the Potter books are geared toward children, they would schedule the opening weekend at a time when the maximum number of children would be able to go see the film, so it would have to be during a school holiday time. I would guess that would mean Spring Break at the very earliest, around the Easter/Passover holidays. Summer would be the next logical time for the film to be released.

I think that they're going for Thanksgiving time with GoF, leading into the Christmas holidays, with lots of kids available for repeat viewings. Considering that GoF just wrapped a few months ago and is going to be released in late Autumn, they are pretty confident about the post-production work that involves the special effects, looping (re-recording dialogue that might have been drowned out during the actual filming, or is just unintelligable) and editing, so we might be able to anticipate the same somewhat-short (well, compared to Star Wars) post production schedule for OotP, so we might get a big fat Easter Egg with OotP.

I completely agree. It's highly improbable.... it was mostly wishful thinking. Oh well...

Here's to hoping it's Easter then. I can also see them wanting to make it a summer blockbuster. All the kids would be out of school and it would be available for purchase in the months leading up to Christmas.

Since all the previous movies have had a late November release date and been pretty succesful with it, why would they not keep it there? I am thinking they will continue to release the HP movies at Thanksgiving. Which would mean we have a long wait for the next movie it really is going to come out in 2007 and not 2006. Sad

Sometimes studios set out a long lead time to the release date and then end up releasing the film earlier if they feel that they have something special or if a window of opportunity opens up. They do plan the release dates months in advance, mostly to stake territory out from other films of the same genre. Therefore, you won't find a Shrek-type movie opening the same weekend as a Disney animated movie, and certain film stars can guarantee certain types of films at certain types of the year - for example, Will Smith is associated with action movies that open around the Fourth of July. You generally get the "family" type films around the Thanksgiving to Chrismas holidays, and the adult/arthouse type fare used to be released after Christmas in order to open in time to get an Academy Award nomination. I forget when the new deadlines are, but studios like their "thoughtful" material to be released as close as possible to the nomination window so that the product isn't forgotten from earlier in the year. A lot of times, studios open what they call their "tent-pole" movies in the summer - Spiderman, Star Wars, Batman - things they know teens will go to see over and over and over again. I think that HP might actually make a good summer movie, the fan base is getting older, but I like the idea of saving it for holiday time.

It's conceivable that OotP has a long target date just in case, and they could still release it November of 2006 if post productions effects are done on track or faster than anticipated. If the director is trying to do a Wizard's chase, a la James Bond down the Themes, I anticipate that he's trying to outdo what has been done before in the first four films, so that OotP could be even more effects heavy (in an already CGI reliant series) than the others, so it's really too early to say. When Kate and Leopold was released the film was originally targeted for a Valentine's Day 2002 release since it was a romantic comedy, but it ended up being released in the late fall of 2001 sort of as a tribute to New York and because the studio felt that Meg Ryan's likability and Hugh Jackman's charisma in this role would be big. I don't think it performed to expectations, but it was a nice diversion that sad holiday season.

Wow, Soli! You know your movies! I never would have noticed those trends but now that you mention it, it seems so obvious.

Anyway... those are all very important thing to take into consideration for most movies, but the Harry Potter producers also have an incentive to release it sooner so that they can release the next one sooner. It'd be nice to drag it out forever to make tons of money... but they have actors growing faster than characters. There would be a lot of really upset fans if they had to change actors for major characters.

I suppose they could start (and even finish) filming the Half Blood Prince before releasing Order of the Phoenix... but they won't want to have a finished movie sitting around too long before showing it off.

Oh well. I guess we'll find out soon enough. At least we have a new book and movie to look forward to. Those should keep us all occupied for a while.

Sort of - I used to act on stage, in television and films. My husband was an actor as well, and when you live in the L.A. area, you realize it's a company town for entertainment, the way Detroit is a company town for the automotive industry. I still pay attention to what's going on, keep up with the business section of the paper, because the happenings affect my husband's business. We had an area near our home closed off for a movie shoot last month, so despite both of us having left acting so long ago, it still affects us in some ways. And now with my eldest having inherited the hambone gene (and her younger siblings showing the same signs), the auditioning and driving up to studios and ridiculous hours due to an 18 hour shooting day will eventually be starting all over again in this household *sighs*

My apologies in advance for being off topic but....

Are there any movies we can see you in? We could add you to the list of famous people we know!

I'll understand if you'd rather keep your identity (and appearance) to yourself but that's pretty cool that you've been in some.

If there is already a thread answering that, can you let me know? Thanks,

The biggest movie that I was in was with Julian Sands, called "Warlock II, The Armegeddon." I think I'm mostly on the cutting room floor - if you blink, you'll miss me dressed all in green in the big fashion show scene when Julian is going after the model with the stone - hey it was years before HP, but a job was a job.

We did a whole other thread on everyone's 15 minutes somewhere on the Chat board...www.immeritus.org/boar...php?t=1562

Just to say to Weasley, I'm sure I went to see POA in the summer last year shortly after it was released, rather than autumn/fall. I remember because I'd just finished some nasty exams and was celebrating a friend's birthday.

I'm not sure whether thats because it was released in England before it was released in America. Let me know if that is the case.

Lupinsangel, in theory your idea that they could make HBP before they released OotP could work for those two films. However J.K.Rowling hasn't written the final book yet, so the main actors will still be older than their characters in the seventh film as JKR has said she is taking a short break before writing the seventh book.

The age gap (the age of the actors themselves) between the sixth and seventh films would be even bigger than the previous films as there'd probably be a couple of years gap between the release of the sixth film and the production and release of the seventh. Emma, Daniel, Rupert and Tom would probably go from looking around seventeen in the sixth to twenty in the seventh all in the space of a movie or school year.

The producers will probably have to leave a consistent gap between the films like they've done so far, so as to make the actors age more realistically not jump from being a teenager to being a young adult. Some people change a lot in the space of a couple of years. Some of my friends certainly have.

I hope that makes sense lol its difficult to put down in words- oh well!!! Smile

Don't forget, that 20 year old actors always play teen roles. Matthew Broderick was in his twenties when he played Ferris Bueller. A lot of the actors in the teen shows on tv are in their 20's. Remember, Andrea in 90210? She was in her 30's. It all depends on how youthful they look and whether they can play younger. It is definitely possible for the three actors to be in the final movies if they don't age drastically. The fact that they are in their 20's shouldn't be a problem unless they look really that much older.

Marauder's Princess, you are so right. It came out on June 4th, 2004. Heh. I could of sworn it came out in November. Okay, I checked and SS was released November 14, 2001, CoS was released April 11, 2003 and GoF will be released on November 18th. So, just ignore my previous post then...they could release this movie at anytime. Smile

Hehe, I know what you mean Weasley.

Though I must say that a lot of actors who are in their 20s or 30s just aren't plausible as teenagers. I'm in my late teens and I'm sorry, I'd love to look like them, but I don't. I still look quite young.

Though saying that to honest, I've really not changed that much in the last couple of years so I'm sure that Emma, Daniel, Rupert and Tom will be able to play their characters in the last few films even if they are a bit older in real life.

I confess I have never watched 91210, I'm an English girl. I've read one of the books but thats about it. I have to laugh though when I've seen the clips, none of the lads at my school look like that, Hehe. Wink

* Yay I'm a first year!!!*
