Why are we missing the virtual games?
Does anyone have any Harry Potter game?
If you do, here you can tell us about any tip you have discovered or ask for help if you are trapped...
and I am trapped
Anyone has the HP: POA game for the nintendo game cube?
If you do, please answer me this...
I know that in Neville and the ghoul you must cast lumos to brighten up the crystal ball, but it doesn't matter how many times I try, the ball won't shine!! I was just wondering if there's something I missed, like to attack all the ghouls first or something like that...
can anyone help me... pleaaaase?

My husband finds "cheats" or "hints" online for his video games. I Yahooed "Harry Potter nintendo hints" and got this.

Finally! Thanks a lot, I've found what I was looking for... I've never used flippendo on the ghouls. Now that I think about it... it's kind of obvious.
Thanks Accio Padfoot.
Anyone has any other question?

Tonight at Blockbuster I got a pre-owned copy of the CoS game for GameCube for $7.50 (woot!). I played it for a couple of hours when I got home and its quite fun! I generally am sucktastic at video games, so I like that this one is 'simple' enough for me to follow/do.
I did have to cheat and go online once during the Whomping Willow portion because I couldn't figure out where to go. I missed a teeny tiny opening evidentally. I am hoping the difficult level doesn't get too much harder as the game progresses as I think its hard enough for me right now. I'm always hesitant to buy videogames like this as I know I'm not good at them and think it will be a waste of my money as I'll never be able to get through them. But, I'd been wanting the HP ones for ages, so this was a great opportunity to try one out.

Post subject: OotP on Wii review
Posted: Wed Jul 04, 2007 10:06 PM

Well, rather than start a new topic, I thought I'd just drudge this old dead one up and continue on with it. This is the review I posted in my LJ:
My husband surprised me and brought home the new Order of the Phoenix video game for the Wii. OMGSOMUCHFUN.
I'm obviously not very far yet, but here are my first impressions.
You start off in 12 Grimmauld Place where Sirius teaches you the basic spells you'll need to start out. I've seen clips and photos of the movie that have showed the Tapestry, but you get to go in the room where it is and in the video game it is SUPER cool looking, so I can only imagine what it will look like in the film. It's actually not exactly how I imagined it, but is in fact more impressive.
I can envision that this game is much the same play feel on any other platform as the other games have been, but to me, the use of the Wiimote is A.Maz.Ing. It takes the fun to a whole new level. You get to dork it up by waving the controller around like you're actually casting a spell. Each spell has an independent movement you make with the Wiimotes (the game makes use of both the left and right hand controllers). I would be much less impressed with this game if not for that.
There are non-combat spells and dueling spells. So far, I have used Accio, Depulso, Wingardium Leviosa, Reparo, Reducto, and Incendio for the non-combats (which, I believe is all of them). Wingardium Leviosa is the most challenging for two reasons: it uses both controllers and you have to actually move the object you are levitating around. I'm sure with practice it shall get easier.
The combat spells I'm finding more difficult as a whole. I've only done a dueling practice with Malfoy and tried to take on Crabbe and Goyle twice, but was sent to the hospital wing both times, so decided to move on to something else for the time being. So far I have learned Stupefy, Protego, and Expelliarmus. Stupefy is hard to manage because, again, it uses both controllers. Again, with practice, I know the dueling will get easier. And the dueling was one of the points of the game I was looking more forward to.
Your first main task is to recruit all 28 members of the DA. You have to go around Hogwarts and find them, but while you're doing that, nearly all of them gives you other mini-tasks to complete before they'll agree to attend the meeting (Zacharias Smith, for example, needs to finish his homework, so you have to go find a book and a potion for him).
One thing I am loving a lot about this game is the use of the Marauders Map. You go to that screen and there is a list of people who you are looking for, the ones with a specific mini-task highlighted, and there is also a list of all the rooms at Hogwarts, because sometimes you are just given a location. The games are geared toward kids, which I love because I'm pretty retarded when it comes to video games, so the level of difficulty is appropriate for me. So when you choose which person or place you want, when you return to game play, there are footsteps that you follow (much like the footsteps that appear on the map) toward your destination, so you cannot get lost.
Like the other games (or at least the ones I have), there are various side things you can work on. In this game you collect Discovery points. The purpose of these points is twofold: it levels your wand up and it unlocks special things. I've not been back to the room since my first unlock, but it gave me interviews with the cast about the game and the movie, which is neat. There are also side games you can play; the only one I've encountered so far is Exploding Snap and I didn't win, so I'm not sure what the reward is.
I also got to use the Invisibility Cloak to sneak into Umbridge's office to obtain an object. That was a really cool little canon thing that just tickled me. It's a little more difficult to maneuver, but not much.
The thing I don't like so far is Ron and Hermione follow you (as Harry) around everywhere. I'm unsure if you'll be able to change characters and play as one of them in the future, but for right now, their purpose is to sort of direct you if you're unsure what to do, but it's not always been helpful. However, they get in your way rather easily, which is annoying.
There are secret passages that you can uncover that you can't use until they're discovered, which is cool. Between this and the Discovery aspect, the game really encourages exploration, which to me, ensures you won't ever get bored and is part of the fun.
It's funny how the video game uses a combination of book canon and movie canon. The games tend to overall follow the movies, being that they are movie tie-ins, but then there are little details that they pull from the books that are different than the movies. The Patil twins are as they should be: Ravenclaw and Gryffindor (well, for all I know they could have been righted in this upcoming movie). Colin Creevey is in this rather than his out-of-nowhere movie version, Nigel.
Oh, and bonus? The game comes with a free movie ticket to a matinee or child's admission. Since I'm not planning on seeing the film until the Saturday morning after it opens, this is a major score!
Anyway, I'll blather on more about the game as I play more!

Great review, Tarafina! I've just finished the game myself - or at least, the story section, I'm actually only 65% complete as I still have lots of exploring to do! There's a bit near the end where you briefly get to play as Sirius.
I also have it for the Wii and it's LOADS of fun, though the Occlumency lessons are really tiring on the arms! I too loved the Marauder's Map and how the footprints appear on the floor, as otherwise I'd have got completely lost. I also liked that you can wear the Invisibility Cloak and if you bash into people, they turn around and go "...hello?"
There are loads of great little details in the game, like the way you can hear everyone badmouthing you as you walk around and Harry/you replies "yeah whatever" as you pass them! The parts with Fred and George's portable swamps are great too, they look amazing.
I loved the Christmas at Grimmauld Place part and being able to explore the house - I wish you could go back there in the Endless Day part! Again, lots of great little details, like Mrs Black's screaming portrait, the mounted house-elf heads on the wall, the troll's foot umbrella stand, the copy of 'Nature's Nobility: A Wizarding Genealogy' and Sirius's grandfather's Order of Merlin that you find in a room - all little things like that straight from the book.
Anyway, even though I've finished the story bit I still have lots of exploring to do, so it's not finished yet.

Yes, yes! I agree on all counts Madzilla! The next day after I posted that, I go through the rest of the story part of the game. Getting to play as Sirius, Dumbledore, and the Weasley twins was very, very cool.
The details really make the game.
I was SO surprised to see that about 40% of the game is just through exploration. The thing I'm having the hardest time with is the portraits; getting the passwords and then refinding the portraits is really challenging. There's some areas where I know there are other things to discover, but I haven't been able to figure it out so far. I think I'm going to have to go through the castle room by room and not leave each room until I find everything. It's really helpful that you can check how much you've discovered in each area.
Oh and my arm was totally exhausted after the Occlumency! Especially the one with Voldemort. OMG I never thought it would end.

I heard some celebrities got Nintendo Wii-idess, yet that's how they work out. Occlumency was hard. But fun! Great way to keep the arm muscles working! But for ages I couldn't figure out how to get passed the part where you had to find the DA members (the first time). But it turned out that you needed to find Fred and George a few times. It was great though. Good combination of puzzling and fighting!
(I sucked at dueling at first, though)
(And I siriusly flipped out when Mrs. Black started screaming! I did NOT expect that!)

Is anyone looking forward to the HBP game?
If so, here is a picture from the game from EA Russia. As you will see, the link is actually from Mugglenet. I wanted to link right from EA Russia, but when I got there, I hit a little snag; I cannnot speak Russian.
HBP Teaser Picture
Personally, I think it is absolutely wonderful. Dumbledore in particular looks great, more as he should look.
While I am here, I may as well review the OOtP game, which I have forgotten to do for so long. There really is no point in me doing this so late after it was released, but I think I will show my appreciation.
I loved this game! I played it on the PS2. How great is it that we can explore Hogwarts again? Not only that, but we get points for it too! Hogwarts looked outstanding, and I loved the way you can interact with portraits, have them set you challenges and such. The little details were what blew me away, which goes for Grimmauld Place also. The locket took a bow, as I can recall. The graphics are amazing, I was totally taken in by them.
It took me a while to master the wand movements, but I love the idea that there is a different move for every spell. I hope EA keep that in HBP. Occlumency was a little tricky to begin with, but I got there. The DA was brillaint, I thought. I had great fun with that.
The way the game combines movie and book is brilliant. Frankly, I think the EA team did a better job of telling the story than Yates did. Playing as Sirius and Dumbledore was so cool! The way Voldemort kept saying things like " And this is the greatest wizard of the age?!" really ticked me off, I really wanted to hurt him!
I also liked the way the other characters talk about Harry, and he can react.
The only thing that bothered me was Ron and Hermione. Harry spent more time banging into them then going anywhere.
I look forward to the HBP game, as long as the exploration of Hogwarts and speelwork is as good as it was in OOtP!

Gaming fans, the official website for the HBP game has been launched!
Official HBP EA Website
Right now, there is very little on the site, but that will obviously change over time, with updates promised. There is, however, a trailer for the game (at least EA have not forgotten to release a trailer), which shows that we will be playing Quidditch in the new game, duelling, and mixing potions. The graphics are amazing.
