Well it looks lovely Soli! Sorry you had to spend so much time frogging. I feel your pain though. I got confused last night while kintting and realized 6 rows on that I'd gotten myself turned around and had to rip it all out again. Blah.

Good luck with the rest!

*shameless*

I haven't been in here actually - I just set off knitting on my own and didn't want to say anything until I'd finished and proved to myself that it wasn't going to turn into another of Nor's Embarrassing Attempts At Things She Really Shouldn't Try...

Anyway. I used to knit when I was little and my mum found me a sweater pattern that used really fat wool and 10mm needles, so it was done in no time and I didn't (eg) get bored halfway and give up, like the last sweater I tried.

So, in conclusion, here it is.

That sweater is adorable, Nor!

Well, Canute. I really have a long way to go on that blanket. I had to frog 5 rows last night to fix a mistake. I forgot to yo a couple times. ( I probably shouldn't knit it while drinking anymore). Once I got all my stitches back on the circ I realized I was missing a stitch so I spent quite awhile locating my dropped stitch. Erg. It is finally all back on and I can see no mistakes, thankfully.

Nor, you overachieving yarn hor. You think you can just sneak off and make (adorable) sweaters whilst sharing none of your agony with fellow SPEWers? Where's the fun in that? How will they indulge in those wonderful moments of schadenfreude that allow all fiberers to survive their own dark moments of horrifying yarn crisis? Pah. Well done anyway. Share the pattern.... There is only one way to make up for this extreme fibering gaffe: you must join the Sock KAL so my fellow Spewers can see that you are, afterall, a mere human.

Canute, You have a PM

THE SOCK KAL WILL BEGIN TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY
. PLEASE DO NOT JUMP THE GUN, WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER ON THIS. (you will not be required to slow down unreasonably once we start so others catch up, but let's all *start* at the same time). In the meantime, if you want to play, knit up a gauge swatch.

YOU WILL NEED

Two pairs Circular Needles, size 2 or 3. 24" or so. I'd recommend the 3's, since most new knitters knit tight. Consider buying an interchangeable needle system (2 cables, 2 sets of size 2 or 3 points). That way you can later buy points in other sizes and make lots and lots of needle size combinations, yay! I like Boye's. And no, you don't have to buy the whole set, they sell them individually.)

150g/450 yards of SOCK YARN. ANY COLOR. Just make sure it is *sock* yarn.

A tapestry needle for weaving in.

The Pattern for CAT BORDHI's Simple Sock. If this is not something you can pull off within the time frame or money frame, just PM me. Like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters, I will lay me down. Ask Canute.

FAQ:

What size sock will this MAKE? You can choose between child's M, women's M, or men's M.

What will the sock LOOK like: Well, a lot depends on the yarn you choose. But here's a link to rough equivalent. It is this type of sock-- a ribbed "leg," going well up over the ankle. I'm sorry, the other ones with a just a little ribbing at the top look doofy.

So... Let the question-asking begin.

I posted in my LJ too, but I'm so ROFL that everyone is calling Tree the Branched One now because of a slight little comment from me. Hee, hee, hee.

*runs out*

Oops, PS I shall be buying the remainder of the supplies for the Sock KAL.

Right, I went to two stores tonight and found my needles. I got some yarn needles as I couldn't remember if I had any or not. I did not find another ball of Jellybean Magic Stripe though. I have to go to another crafty type store sometime this week so I will check there. Otherwise I will have to order online. I also ordered the book with the pattern for the socks from Amazon, which is to arrive by April 21.

Whooooaaaaa there Tara. A ball of Magic Stripe should make TWO socks. At least the lionbrand site says so. It's true that they don't rib all the way down on their pattern, but... your call.

Always good to have extra, though.

ETA: John and I bought my birthday/graduation present today.... A fabbity Sony Handycam. And, it's digital! Which means that if needed for the KAL or anything else, I can make my very own KSOS style videos! Woooooot!!!

I have a question about the circular needles we need. Is there a certain length that they are supposed to be? Or do I just need to worry about the needle size?

I ordered the book today and it should get here by the 19th. I should be ready to start with everyone. Yay!

My trip to the craft stores today was a disaster with regards to the KAL; no needles, no sock yarn anywhere (though I did see the Boye interchangeable needle set...a bit too expensive for me at the mo'; perhaps I'll check ebay). I did, however, pick up a few skeins of grey Lion Brand Jiffy yarn and a grapefruity fun yarn for the scarf I worked on last night (and which I planned on frogging to get the pink twisty yarn out--it looks pretty but.... I think it'll go better with the grey). Also, I found out that the black and green scarf Hewitt's mom made me (the one with the paper-y looking bits) is not elongated stitches at all. Just regular stitch work but loose on size 15 needles. Go figure.

Anyway, I shall comb online sources tonight for sock yarn and needles and place my Amazon book order as well.

See, Tree that's what I thought, but the pattern you linked to says 450 yds of yarn so I was going off that. The lion brand ball has something like 350. Can you confirm with your pattern in your book until mine arrives?

That's a bummer, Pen. I was telling Weasley earlier that the store I got my needles at didn't have choices at all, so I had to take the only kind they had. I saw lots of larger sizes, but not the size 2 or 3s.

Same here, Tara. I'm determined to find them though. The smallest I found were size 6.

Pen Oh yeah, the whole set costs a bunch. But you can purchase just 2 cables and 2 sets of needle points also. Or order, what have you.

And Tara, yes, the pattern I'm using calls for 3 150 yard skeins of this yarn it wants. Put it this way, though: you have PLENTY for one sock regardless. And one sock will take more than enough time to make for a second skein to be ordered in the meantime. So no worries.

You both have PMs
