August is Immeritus' birthday month, in case you didn't know. In the past, we have always done something in order to celebrate that birthday and while the site may be smaller than it once was, with no new books to discuss and no new Sirius antics to thrill us and whip us into fangirl/boy squeeage, we do still love this place and we do still love our Sirius. Immeritus has a special place in my heart and I would NEVER forget its birthday and I know you wouldn't either!

The Challenge

For this month's special birthday challenge, we would like you to revisit your favorite Sirius moment, from the books or movies, and rework it, expand upon it, or change it. We are hoping for more than just "Sirius dodges the Veil," here. For example, instead of hiding out in the cave, from GoF, maybe Sirius flitted about Hogsmeade, spent some time with Madame Rosemerta. Or perhaps you will explore some of the things that are mentioned but never actually seen in the books or movies, such as Sirius' and Crookshanks' conversations from PoA. Feel free to explore marauder-era happenings as well! Pranks on Snape, conversations with Remus, visits to detention with James. All we ask is that you mention the scene you are working with so that we can revisit that moment as well!

Revel in the Sirius love, though he is gone, he is not forgotten.

Notes: I'm flying off for a whirlwind trip in a few hours, so I figured I'd better get something done before I go! *squee*
This is a little poem concerning the birth of the future Chosen One. Sirius gets a message from James... the time is now!

Notes: Prizoner of Azkaban is probably my favorite book of the series. The passages in the Shrieking Shack are hands down my favorite. Mostly because I was completely taken by surprise with the twists and I loved that. This poem is inspired by PoA Chapter 19--The Servant of Lord Voldemort:

Harry remembered what Mr. Weasley had told Mrs. Weasley. "The guards say he's been talking in his sleep…always the same words…'He's at Hogwarts.'"

"It was as if someone had lit a fire in my head, and the dementors couldn't destroy it….It wasn't a happy feeling.. it was an obsession…but it gave me strength, it cleared my mind."

Notes: Takes place in PoA when Sirius attends Harry's Quidditch match as a dog. This poem considers what Sirius might have been thinking (if he thought in verse--and I mean, who doesn't?)

Not Afraid

Not afraid to take off flying--
A metal scrap ‘tween air and me.
Not afraid to give up drinking,
Though I’d miss sweet fire whiskey.

Unconcerned for my own safety
In a swift duel to the death—
But when I see that lad roam lately,
I can barely catch my breath.

Once I thought I was invincible
When James enlisted me to care.
Since then has happened the unthinkable,
And I am left to bear

The burden of this child’s keep
Who could only think me vile;
Believing I betrayed his family,
The wizard world beguiled.

But when I see him soaring on his broom
‘Bove the crowd’s adoring sway,
As friend or father, dare I presume
He’d love me one distant day?

Notes: This poem tries to illustrate Sirius’ feelings during his stay at Grimmauld place, especially the time he spent alone. We catch a glimpse of lonely Sirius in OotP:

Sirius was hurrying towards them all, looking anxious. He was unshaven and still in his day clothes; there was also a slightly Mundungus-like whiff of stale drink about him.
