DobbOberfest Knit- and Crochet-Along!

The Immy DobbOberfest is here!!!!

So break out the Pumpkin Juice, Butter Beer and Mulled Mead, - um, one or the other people, not all three together -get into your stash and join us in honoring Dobby, the bravest little elf in the magical world! Without him, the Dark Lord might have succeeded with his evil plan and then where would we be?

We all know that Dobby loved clothes, especially socks, so we're going to honor him by making October his month and knitting or crocheting socks we know he would love. Technically this means socks that don't match, but we don't think Dobby would be too bothered if they do. He'd just mix them up later. Alternatively, you could take this opportunity to use up some of your stash by knitting socks out of different yarns. Strips and colourwork lend themselves to this pretty well. Or, think Halloween socks! Dobby would love anything Halloween.

The Dobboberfest runs from Oct. 1st to the 31st. As mentioned, any yarn, pattern or color will do for the K/CAL, as long as it's socks. We're also not limiting anyone to just one pair, so feel free to knit or crochet to your heart's content and free as many elves as you like!

I also wanted to remind everyone that the socks can be any size. So, you know, if you want something to fit your dog or decide you want to try your hand at a sock-filled Advent calendar or something, DobbOberfest is the perfect time to do it!

I've decided to use up my KP Essentials Kettle Dyed yarn (Thank you Tara!) by doing ankle socks in two colours (blue and green). If I can force myself to part with them, they'll go up in the Bazaar thread for sale when I'm done.

What's anyone else planning?

I'm making a pair of toe socks in a blue-green colorway called Aquarium (KP Felici)--wanna take a guess who they're for? Razz

And I may even attempt some Mary Jane slippers in a sport weight yarn for more rugged wear.

My socks are made of multicoloured wool from a sock kit. I also plan to donate them to the bazaar - if I ever get past the heel...

I love the banners! I wish I actually had some skill at this. (I know I've only ever tried once, but I hate not being successful when I do things.) Not that I would call my old one a complete failure, it just wasn't much of a success. (I'm a fast learner and even my mom has pointed out how angry I get when I can't do something right the first time) Oh, if I could make toe socks, I'd be the most excited little girl ever. =P

I'm too new at this, unfortunately, I can't find simple enough patterns, and my mom lost all her crochet hooks, so I only have one size :/

Just remember, Gwen, that we're never good at something right away. Now, I'm not trying to sound like an after-school special or anything, but practice does help. Have you seen the hilarious things we came up with when we were first learning? If not, check out the old SPEW thread. Very Happy

Your first attempt, for having only one hook size and running out of orange yarn, still looks pretty dang good to me!

Hurray for Burrow Bazaar donations! I'm planning some projects for that as well.

When I'm done with my current project, I plan on making a set of 4 dog bootie-style socks in whatever acrylic yarn I'm tired of looking at in my yarn drawer.

Making them for my dog hoping they'll help alleviate some of his itching right now.

Oh, those are wonderful, Perro! I wish I could make them. Actually, like I said before, I really wish I could make some toe socks... and have them all stripey with random colours <3 I love strange socks, but I mostly only have plain boring ones. If I could make my own, I'd be so excited. I may have to go buy a smaller hook (knitting scares me simply because of the fear of dropping the stitches and ruining it all for good. I can be clumsy at times.), but I really want to get the hang of this! *starts looking for patterns*

Arrr! I'm not yet good enough to improvise patterns and I can't find anything I like and/or can understand the pattern for... plus I desperately need a new hook if I'm going to be making anything besides giant baggy socks.

*boo!* I still haven't attempted to learn how to knit or crochet, but I dug up and dusted off a poem I wrote years ago that fits this theme! (I also cringed quite a bit at the complete lack of flow in many spots until I remembered that I did it on purpose because it sounded more like Dobby to me. Wink

) I also should go back and change some of the punctuation that makes me go Shocked

, why did I decide to do that? However, time is insanely limited, so you may all just point and laugh instead.

Dobby is the luckiest elf in the world!
Dobby's good fortune is making Dobby’s toes twirl.
The Boy Who Lived
Tricked Master who gived
Dobby a sock, more precious than pearls.

Now socks is Dobby’s favorite favorite clothes.
Dobby thinks of them and Dobby's heart glows.
Dobby's eyes, how they water
When Dobby is thinking of Harry Potter.
Tears of joy drip down Dobby's long nose.

The Great Harry Potter freed Dobby.
Then for Christmas gave socks all knobbly
And mustardy yellow.
But the poor fellow
