This has probably been asked before so feel free to delete it.
Is your desire to see Sirius Black in the books (alive at the present time, not flashbacks) greater than your desire to see him happy in them?
If you knew that, for the next 2 books, Sirius was going to be miserable, would you still want him alive? If it was absolutely definite, that apart from say a bit at the end of book7, he was going to be locked up at Grimmuald place, depressed, drinking, lonely etc... Would you still rather that, so you at least get to read about him?
Or do you see the fact that he's now dead as possibly positive for him? That now he'll be with Lily and James, able to do whatever he wants wherever he is, not confined to Azkaban or Grimmuald Place.
I personally think that I would find it really hard to chose. As I think he would have had the same sense of uselessness that he felt in OotP up in 'heaven' because he would have abandoned (by no fault of his own) Harry, and is now unable to help him in anyway. And he'll be able to see how upset Harry and Remus are. And of course I would have liked (okay loved) to read more about him in the books. I really enjoyed Order of the Phoenix, even though Sirius was unhappy. Ugh.
What about you?
Again I apologize, for anything I may have done wrong. (And for posting twice during the last 10 minutes)

"You don't want to bottle up your anger like that, Harry, let it all out," said Fred, also beaming.
"There might be a couple of people fifty miles away who didn't hear you."
"It doesn't matter, don't apologise," Sirius mumbled. He turned away from the tapestry, his hands deep in his pockets. "I don't like being back here," he said, staring across the drawing room. "I never thought I'd be stuck in this house again."
"Yes but the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters."
-Sirius
'For one brief moment, the great black dog reared on to it's hind legs and placed it's front paws on Harry's shoulders.'

Sirius deserves a happy ending. Whether it's in 'heaven' or wherever, I just hope he's happy. Only time (and the next 2 books...) will tell!

Wow - that's a really difficult question to answer. Other than Remus Lupin, it's difficult to think of a satellite character more deserving of happiness than Sirius. Wrongfully accussed and imprisoned. Having to live as an animal, then as a fugitive. Not being able to take his rightful place in the order of the world.
As there's no going back, I hope that his name is eventually cleared and that the grand pooh-bahs in the Ministry publicly admit that they were all wrong about Sirius. Then at least his spirit could rest in peace. I hope that Pettigrew is found out to be the weak-willed traitor that he is and that he suffers the appropriate consequences.
And I still hope that Sirius finds a way to communicate with Harry from beyond the veil until such time that he can give himself over to accepting death - once Voldemort's group is eradicated. I feel that he would find a way to make himself useful in his ectoplasmic state - he is, after all, *that* resourceful...

Post subject: Back, with a chance for happiness

Even if Sirius were back and miserable, he'd have a chance
at being happy. He didn't have a horrible, painful disease. He did have the dis-ease of depression, and understandably so.
When ever some one goes through trauma, the recovery period
means going through depression and misery. Look at all the years the character couldn't really even think of happiness, because of the dementors. He needed to do something he loved to get out of it. That's what we all need when we feel miserable.
To wish death on someone because they are miserable? No, that is the dark, uncaring side of us taking over.
JKR has said she has a hire purpose for Sirius' death than just putting him out of his misery. And, even the character Dubbledore realizes he should have set the situation up differently. If Sirius comes back, it doesn't appear his friends would let him remain in his depression.

I have to agree with Fire Whiskey in the sense that Sirius might feel rather restless and anxious in Heaven. Knowing that Harry (and the rest of the world, for that matter) is in incomprehensible danger would certainly cause him utter distress. Yet I cannot help but wonder just WHAT is going on in Heaven. Are those that reside there planning something against Voldemort as well?
Sorry... went a bit off topic there.
I, of course, want Sirius to be happy. I'd like nothing more than for him to somehow receive reparation for his tormented life (the same goes for lovely Lupin).
I personally believe J.K. Rowling will give him his due... whether it be on earth or in the afterlife.

That is definetly a hard question to answer, but I think that if he came back that he would be happy, because now that everyone knows that Voldemort is back, it'd be easy to tell that Sirius wasn't evil. Since Snape is now on the good side, he could explain that Death Eaters had the Dark Mark burned onto their arms, and Sirius obviously didn't have it. However, it is debatable if spies like Wormtail had the Dark Mark...still, I think his innocence could've been proved, and he therefore wouldn't have been locked up, and he'd be happy.
There BETTER be more Sirius in books 6 & 7, though, no matter HOW dead he is...like I like to say,

What a good question. There's no doubt that I want Padfoot to never have died because the next two books just aren't going to be as exciting, because for me the best part of the series is gone. I'm going to miss all his funny lines and memorable scenes, and whenever Harry is mourning, I'm going to have a really hard reading because I'll be blurring up my vision with tears.
But, Sirius was miserable at Grimmauld Place. He'd spent 12 years on jail, two on the run and then a year in the home he hated. He told Harry he hated being back there, and he was even starting to drink. I don't want him to be living like that. I want more information on Sirius, but I'd rather him be happy and be with James.
I just hope JK has lots of flashback scenes because it's going to be really unfair that everyone is getting new quotes and information about their favorite characters, and Sirius fans are stiffed.

Post subject: What if it was real life?

I find the focus on the next world as better disturbing. I don't want to knock anyone's beliefs, but it's this life that counts now. In real life the good thing is to try and help people out of depression and into better life in the here and now.
Even in the worst case, there is always hope in this world. The
assumption has been that Sirius would have remained in a
depressing situation.
I'm not that great a fiction writer, but I could have figured out at least 3 ways of changing the situation for the better.

In our world, the Real World, you have a point - we don't know for certain what is coming, so we have to live for the here and now just in case. But, the Wizarding World is different. We know that there is an after life because Harry has been visited by his Parent's spirits on multiple occassions and there are ghosts all around. That's why I believe Sirius is with James again.

Post subject: So, why doesn't Harry end it all

I thought about this again.
Following a logic that the wizard world has a better existence past death then why not say Harry would be better off if he jumped off the North Tower and ended it all. That way he'd be with his parents.
I hope you understand what I'm saying. It is perfectly logical that Dumbledore thinks positively about dying as he is nearing the end of his life. He's fulfulled his purpose. Not so in the case of Sirius. In fact, that was the problem. He saw his roll only as a godfather.
Better off dead? Not even in the Hogwarts world does this make sense . My opinion, but again, I hope you see the logic.

WOW! That IS a hard question to answer! I beleive that I would....after much thinking...choose to have him alive even if miserable....because I believe that all things happen for a reason and it'd be worth it to him in the end. I believe Harry could really use Sirius...not to mention we wanna see him still :).....and that Sirius would wanna still be alive no matter what to help with defeating Voldemort and to be there for Harry...in any way possible!

That is a really great question but really hard to answer. Like someone has already said I'm really going to miss reading about Sirius if he isn't in the next books too and I'm preparing myself for lots of tears! I think I'd prefer Sirius to be alive because in the end I think he would be truly happy. He'd also just be happy knowing Harry was safe and that he was still around for him.

Good question!
I think that he would be happy in the 2 ways because:
If he would die (he did): he would find James again and be happy with him and Lily.
But if he lived: He would be with Harry and Remus. Once the Daily Prophet accept that Voldemort's back Sirius would have been recovered from his statue of murderer! So maybe he would have been happier alive with Harry?
He would have taken care of him in James place.
But maybe Sirius will come back some way (we can hope!)

Really difficult question, but why would Sirius have had it bad if he had lived?
Fudge, the minister of magic, has no choice now but to believe Dumbledore. And if Fudge has to listen to Dumbledore than shouldn't the headmaster get Sirius off the hook, so he can resume his place outside of 12 Grimmauld Place and possibly become an Auror?
I can't imagine Dumbledore leaving Sirius to rot in the HQ of OotP and I think he would have had a great life fighting evil! He could have maybe died in the 7th book after the evil was taken care of, then he could go on and be James and Lily in heaven in whatever. But for JK to go and kill him now, just when things were beginning to look up... Well, its beyond cruel!

That's a really tough question. I would love to read more about Sirius, but if he wasn't happy, it wouldn't be as good. If only he could be in future books, but be happy! He really hated being in Grimmauld Place, and the one time he was out as a dog, Lucious recongized him.
My question is though, why did Sirius have to stay in Gimmalud Place if he was an Animagi? It says in the third book that Sirius, James and Peter all learned how to transform into several animals. Sirius could just turn into a different animal, say a cat, and he could go outside and even go to Hogwarts with Harry and nobody would know who he really was.
Just a thought..
